Agnes Regina Chapman

Agnes Chapman was born on April 3, 1916 on the family farm near Woodstock, Minnesota to Henry and Elizabeth Bult Slinger.  Agnes grew up on the family farm and attended Chanarambie Township Country School.   Agnes worked at Ham Jensen Candy Kitchen in Pipestone, MN.  On October 5, 1949 she and Harold Chapman were married at St. Martin Church in Woodstock.  Following their marriage they farmed near Woodstock and raised their five children.  Harold passed away on August 24, 1967.  Agnes remained on the farm until 1972 when she moved to Lake Wilson, MN.  Agnes worked in the kitchen at the Chandler-Lake Wilson Elementary School.  In 2009 Agnes moved to Lindenwood Assisted Living in Slayton and later she became a resident of the Slayton Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.  Agnes passed away at the Murray County Medical Center in Slayton on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at the age of 100.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Lake Wilson, MN where she was active in the C.C.W.   She was a member of the Cameron Township Birthday Club.  Agnes enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening specially her flowers and bird watching.

Survivors include her five children Marlys Thomas of Omaha, NE, Virgil Chapman and his wife, Donna of Fulda, MN, Doug Chapman and his wife, Deanna of Hills, MN, Colleen Bose of Lake Wilson, MN, and Loren Chapman of Fulda, MN; 20 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; four siblings, Margaret Slinger of Slayton, MN, Henry Slinger and his wife, Mary of Jackson, MN, Bernard Slinger and his wife, Judy of Casa Grande, AZ, and Betty Staab of Pipestone, MN; two sisters-in-law, Rose Slinger of Pipestone, MN, and Lois Slinger of Northfield, MN; and many nieces and nephews and their families.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harold, three great-grandchildren, Billy, Jeffery and David Thomas, two sons-in-law, Carl Thomas and Randy Bose, five brothers, Ed Slinger, Walter Slinger and wife, Evelyn, Louis Slinger and wife, Rita, Joseph Slinger, and William Slinger; three sisters and their spouses, Mary and John Ahrends, Martha and Andy Pheiffer, and Helen and Ed Burkard.

Funeral Services

St. Mary’s Church in Lake Wilson, MN on Monday, February 20, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Thien Nguyen officiating with special music by Group Therapy.  The pallbearers are Jason Thomas, Jerimy Chapman, Brent Chapman, Bryan Bose, Grant Bose, and Nick Dieter.  As requested by Agnes her nephews are her honorary pallbearers.   Interment is at St. Martin’s Cemetery in Woodstock, MN.

Visitation will be on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton from 4-6 p.m. and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.
