Albert “Duke” William Lentz

Duke Lentz was born on January 11, 1936 in Slayton, Minnesota to Nicholas and Edna Graf Lentz.  He grew up in Slayton and graduated from Slayton High School in 1954.  After graduation Duke worked at the Hadley Creamery for a short time before enlisting in the United States Army.  Duke served in France and Germany. On August 24, 1962 he and Carol Ireton were married at the United Methodist Church in Slayton.  Following their marriage they made their home in Iona until 1974 when they moved to an acreage west of Slayton.  In 1996 they moved to Slayton and in 1998 Duke retired from Rupp Construction after 38 years of services.  Duke moved to Our House Hospice Home in Slayton on Thursday, July 28, 2016 and passed away there on Friday, July 29, 2016 surrounded by his family at the age of 80.  He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Slayton where he served as an usher.  Duke enjoyed spending time with his two granddaughters and other family members, bowling, dancing, snowmobiling, golfing, and watching races. 

Survivors include his wife, Carol Lentz of Slayton, MN, son, Lyle Lentz and his wife, Lisa of Apple Valley, MN; two granddaughters, Jaycee and Madison Lentz; three sisters, Gordena and her husband, Pete DeGreeff of Slayton, MN, Arlene Edmundson of Woodstock, MN, and Arlys Edmundson and her husband, Dale of Hadley, MN, and many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Virgil and one brother-in-law, Herman Edmundson.  

Funeral Services

United Methodist Church in Slayton, MN on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Chad Setter officiating.  The organist is Janet Voges with special music by Julie Steenstra.  The pallbearers are Kevin Edmundson, Brian Edmundson, Paul DeGreeff, Troy DeGreeff, Dean DeGreeff and Myron Bennett.  The honorary pallbearers are his godchildren, Della Bennett and Jay Ireton.  Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens in Slayton, MN. 

Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton from 4-6 p.m. and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday.
