Audrey Jane Schuur

Audrey Schuur was born on March 10, 1935 on the family farm north of Slayton, Minnesota to George and Minnie Oldewurtel Beech.  She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Slayton High School in 1953.  Following high school Audrey moved to Iowa and lived with her aunt and worked at a jewelry store.  While in Iowa Audrey entered the Miss Iowa Contest and was named 2nd runner up.  She then attended South Dakota State University in Brookings for a year before moving to Dallas, TX and attended modeling school.  On December 2, 1961 she and Curt Christensen were married at Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton.  Following their marriage they made their home in Slayton and Audrey worked for State Farm Insurance for a short time before going to work for the office supply store in Slayton and later for Davis Office Supply in Worthington.  In 1971 she and Curt divorced.  On February 20, 1993 she and Rodney Schuur were married at St. Ann’s Church in Slayton.  Following their marriage they made their home in Slayton.  Due to failing health Audrey moved to Our House Hospice Home in Slayton on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 and passed away there on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at the age of 81.  She was a member of St. Ann’s Church in Slayton.  Audrey enjoyed spending time with her family, golfing, shooting pool and traveling. 

Survivors include her husband, Rod Schuur of Slayton, MN three children, Kim Johnson of Slayton, MN, Craig and Dawn Christensen of Slayton, MN, and Brett Christensen of St. Peter, MN, six grandchildren, Kyle, Colton, and Cameron Johnson, Nichole Christensen, and Macy and Colin Christensen; two brothers, Paul Beech of Slayton, MN, and George Beech Jr. of Byron, MN.  She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Jerry Beech and his wife, Thelma and sister-in-law, Norma Jean Beech. 

Funeral Services

St. Ann’s Church in Slayton on Monday, July 11, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Jim Callahan officiating.  The organist is Judy Andrew.  The song leader is Rita Lear.  The pallbearers are Kyle Johnson, Cameron Johnson, Colton Johnson, Nichole Christensen, Macy Christensen, Colin Christensen, Milton Schuur, and Duane Achterhoff.  Interment is at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Slayton, MN. 

Visitation will be on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton from 4-6 p.m. and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.
