Elizabeth “Betty” Haar

Betty Haar, the daughter of William and Odelia (Miller) Hermeling, was born on June 30, 1929 in Iona Twp., Murray Co., MN. She grew up on the family farm and attended St. Columba Catholic School in Iona and graduated from the Fulda High School. She then worked as a telephone operator and the bank in Fulda. Betty was united in marriage to Harold Haar on February 1, 1945 in Iona, MN. After their marriage they lived in Fulda and owned and operated Oak Grove Dairy and Haar’s Clothing Store in Fulda. Betty moved to the Maple Lawn Campus in Fulda in 2011. Betty passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at the Sanford Medical Center in Worthington, MN at the age of 88. She was a member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church where she belonged to the F.C.C.W. She a member of the Fulda American Legion Auxiliary and a charter member of the Fulda Pink Ladies. She enjoyed quilting, reading, ceramics, golfing, traveling and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her 3 daughters, Kathy (Jerry) Van Oort of Henderson, MN, Jane (Steve) Alpert of Lakeville, MN and Cindy (Lowell) Meier of Fulda, MN; 8 grandchildren, Jen (Zach) Bakke, Maggie (Randy) Fisher, Katie (Greg) Nuss, Jeremy Van Oort, Jamie Alpert, Laura (Andy) Schmitz, Hilary (Aaron) Clay and Adrienne Meier 11 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Donna Kremer, May Johnson, Mary Olson and Ivona (Tom) Risacher; 2 brothers, Bill (Shirley) Hermeling and Larry Hermeling and two sisters-in-law, Alicia “Lolly” Morningstar of Westbrook, MN and Betty Hermeling of Fulda, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.

Funeral Services

St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church Fulda, MN at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 31, 2017 with Msgr. R. Paul Heitng officiating.  The organist is Sharon Lais. The song leader is Sheila Crowley. Interment at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery Fulda, MN.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda is assisting the family with arrangements.
