Charles Wesley Barrett

Charles “Chuck” Barrett, the son of Charles Wesley Law and Vergina Stripling, was born on March 3, 1940 in Hollandale, MN. He was adopted by Irvin and Luella (Stripling) Barrett in 1945. They lived in Missouri until 1948 when they moved to Slayton, MN, where he grew up and attended school. In 1962 he married Sharon Isch and together they had one child, David and they later divorced. Chuck was united in marriage to Karen Likness on October 7, 1963. After their marriage he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he was an instructor in Data Processing and over the next 6 years they were stationed in Key West, FL, Frankfurt, Germany and Long Branch, NJ before making their home in Slayton in 1969. He had many jobs in his lifetime, including Lambert Lumber Building, Titan Homes, PPG in Marshall and lastly Midwest Supply in Slayton, where he retired from in 2014. Chuck passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017 at the Golden Living Center in Slayton, MN at the age of 77. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Slayton where he served as an usher. He enjoyed woodworking, car restoration, racing, working outside and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Barrett of Slayton, MN; 4 children, David Gustafson of New Richmond, WI, Lance (Judith) Barrett of Burnsville, MN, Gina (Larry) Diekmann of Slayton, MN and Julie (Lenny) Diekmann of Wells, MN; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and 4 siblings, Joyce (John) Jans of Dundee, MN, Jeanie Forsberg of Sioux Falls, SD, Sonny (Susie) Beebe Sioux Falls, SD and Marilyn (Chuck) Berdan of Belle Fouche, SD. He is preceded in death by both sets of his parents, sisters, Linda, Sharon and Vicki, brother, Arden and brother-in-law, John Forsberg.

Memorial Services

Trinity Lutheran Church Slayton, MN at 10:30 AM on Saturday, April 22, 2017 with Rev. Doug Minton officiating.  The organist is Kathy Schwartz. The soloist is Heidi Winter. The honorary pallbearers are Dan Carlson, Buddy Diekmann, Jim Gleis, George Hay, Richard Johnson, Michelle Homan, Ashley Radke, Krystal Chose, Paige, Ava, Danika and Wesley Diekmann, Joshua, Jordan and Joseph Barrett, Kaitlyn Norcross and Kelinda Gustafson. Interment at Slayton Memorial Gardens Slayton, MN.

Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 PM at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
