In Loving Memory of

Darrell Joseph Morin

Darrell Morin passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017 at the Murray County Medical Center in Slayton, MN at the age of 85 years and 8 days.  Darrell was born March 30, 1932 in Mason Township, Murray County, Minnesota to Alphonse and Esther (Barrie) Morin.  He grew up on a farm near Currie, attended Country School District #5 and Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Currie, MN.  He enlisted into the United States Army on March 25, 1953 and served in the Korean War.  He was discharged on January 10, 1955. On September 8, 1956, he was united in marriage to Rita Holles at IHM Church in Currie.  Following their marriage, he worked at Stonehill Creamery and A & D Hatchery in Tracy, MN.  In 1959, Darrell and Rita moved to the Holles farm south of Currie where they farmed for many years.  He also thoroughly enjoyed mentoring young employees, along with visiting with campers while working at Lake Shetek State Park for 23 years, retiring in 1997.  In 2013, they left the farm and moved into Currie.  Darrell was an active lifetime member of the IHM Church in Currie, a member of the VFW in Slayton, and also a very involved member of the Currie American Legion.  He became a member of the American Legion in 1955. He served as commander for several terms and also held various other offices.  Darrell was very much a people person with a heart of gold.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, playing cards, visiting with family and friends, and teasing his grandchildren, friends, or anyone he was near. Darrell was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who asked very little of his family but truly enjoyed any time he could spend with them. He had an amazing love of life. His strength, love and his laughter live on through all of them.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rita, and their seven children and their spouses, Sharon (Mark) Eckhart of Willmar, MN, Curtis Morin of Yankton, SD, Dale (Mary) Morin of Raymond, NH, Susan (Dave) Deakins of Alexandria, MN, Leslie (Mary) Morin of Slayton, MN, Bradley (Susan) Morin of Surprise, AZ, and Teresa (Mike) Slagel of Marshall, MN; 21 grandchildren, Tianna and Dane Braun, Rachel Eckhart, Jamie Winterboer, Trevor Morin, Ashley Morin, Jessica Tousant, Brian Messer, Chelsea Morin, Joseph Morin, Ethan Deakins, Emily Deakins, Kayleigh Morin, Bradlee Morin, Halle Morin, Jessica and Trevor Schulte, Amanda Morin, Bobbi Cote, Cassie Cote, Sammi and Travis Moon, Tawnni Slagel and Braedy Slagel; 11 great-grandchildren; two siblings, George (Dorie) Morin of Surprise, AZ, and Dorothy VanMeveren of Worthington, MN.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, Billi Cote, one brother and his spouses, Willard and Marion and Irene, and two sisters and their spouses, Venetta and Bruno Hoebelheinbrich and Dolly and Charles Allen, and one brother-in-law, Robert VanMeveren.
