Diane Margaret Schaffer

Diane Schaffer was born on June 18, 1946 in Slayton, Minnesota to Arthur and Lorraine Redenius Mathias.  She grew near Kinbrae, MN and graduated from Fulda High School in 1964.  On July 16, 1966 she and James Schaffer were married at St. Mary’s Church in Dundee, MN.  Following their marriage they made their home in Heron Lake, MN and ran Schaffer Oil Company.  James passed away on April 12, 1981.  Diane remained in Heron Lake and continued operating Schaffer Oil in Heron Lake, Windom and Luverne until 1983 when she sold the business. Diane then went to work for First National Bank in Lakefield, Fulda and Slayton. In the late 1980’s Diane and Dennis Bremer became engaged.  In 1997 Diane moved to Avoca, MN and joined Denny.   Diane retired in 2011 from First National Bank after 47 years of service.  Due to failing health Diane moved to Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington on July 26, 2016 and passed away there peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at the age of 70.  Diane enjoyed spending time with family, crocheting, bowling, crossword puzzles and trip to area casinos.

Survivors include her three children and their spouses, Lisa and Chad Kalfs of Lakefield, MN, Kristine and Rodney Obermoller of Brewster, MN, and Paul and Brandi Schaffer of Curtis Bay, MD; six grandchildren Tyler and Sarah Obermoller, Samantha Obermoller, Macy Kalfs, Mattey Kalfs, Kimberly Schaffer and Jamie Schaffer; fiancé, Dennis Bremer of Avoca, MN, his son, David Bremer and his wife, Stacy of Shakopee, MN and their children, Jordan and Kara Bremer; her mother, Lorraine Mathias of Windom, MN, four sisters and their spouses, Patty and Ralph Hall of Clearwater FL, Carol and Wayne Nichols of Redwood Falls, MN, Linda and Richard Vortherms of Windom, MN, and Wanda and Richard Winter of Marshall, MN; three sisters-in-law and their spouses, JoAnne and Richard Spada of Apple Valley, MN, Myrna Schaffer of Heron Lake, MN, and Karen and Gerard Weinandt of Brewster, MN; one brother-in-law, Daniel Schaffer and his wife, Irena of Chesapeake, VA,  and several nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her father, Arthur Mathias, husband, James Schaffer, father and mother in-law, Paul and Laverna Schaffer, brother-in-law, Clayton Schaffer., and one nephew, Ron Hall.

Funeral Services

Sacred Heart Church in Heron Lake, MN on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Patrick Arens officiating.  The organist is Jayne Miranowski with the Sacred Heart Choir.  The pallbearers are Paul Kirchner, Gerald Pearson, George Diemer, James Stenzel, Delbert Freking, and Brad Doherty.  The honorary pallbearers are Jeaneen Nelson, Marilyn Carlson, Diane Doherty, June Freking, Lorie Kruse, Sue Isder and Cammy Winkler.  Interment is at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Heron Lake, MN. 

Visitation will be on Friday, August 12, 2016 at the Sacred Heart Church in Heron Lake from 4-7 p.m. and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.
