In Loving Memory of

Eleanor Avis Warren Berglund

Eleanor Berglund was born on July 13, 1927 on the family farm in Lime Lake Township, Murray County, Minnesota to Emil and Anna Moen Toner.  She grew up on the Toner homestead until her father had a stroke and was unable to farm.  The family then moved to Slayton where Eleanor graduated from Slayton High School in 1945.  On November 28, 1945 she and Don Warren were married in Lake Wilson, MN.  Following their marriage they farmed the Warren homestead in Chanarambie Township, Murray County, MN, for over 41 years.  Don passed away on February 7,1987.  On February 2, 1991 she and Albert Berglund were married in Slayton.  Following their marriage they made their home on the Berglund farm southwest of Iona, MN.  Albert passed away on February 23, 2016.  Eleanor made her home at the Maplewood Assisted Living in Fulda until March 2017 when she became a resident of the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda where she passed away on Friday, November 3, 2017 at the age of 90.  She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Slayton.  Eleanor had a great interested in county history and was a lifetime member of the Murray County Historical Society, contributing many artifacts to the museum as well as nearly 200 scrapbooks containing history of Murray County and it’s people.  She was instrumental in establishing a family newspaper article file at the museum for genealogical research.  She also started the Christmas Tree Program in 1981.  Eleanor contributed articles, “The Buffalo Ridge Echoes” and “Our County History” to the Slayton papers for many years.  She was a volunteer for a short time at the DAC.  She was a charter member of the Murray County Hospice, volunteering for 16 years at the Annual Hospice Rummage Sale.

Survivors include her three children and their spouses, Kathleen and Larry DeBoer of Lake Benton, MN, Walter and Virginia Warren of Iona, MN, and Charles and Shirley Warren of Littleton, CO, four step-children and their spouses, Carol and Charles Serfling of Adrian, MN, Lorraine and Steve Halbur of Iona, MN, Darrell and LaVonne Berglund of Adrian, MN, and James and Connie Berglund of Iona, MN, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, two siblings and their spouses, Sherman “Sam” and Connie Toner of Slayton, MN, Charles Toner of Aurora, CO, and foster sibling, Valerie Veld and her husband, Arlen of Iona, MN.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Don Warren and Albert Berglund, great-grandson, Donavon Warren, and one sister-in-law, Geraldine Toner.

Funeral services

Trinity Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Doug Minton officiating.  The organist is Kathy Schwartz with special music by Becky Peterson and Tami Hellewell.  The pallbearers are Donavon Warren, Bryan Warren, Blair Hellewell, Dave Peitz, Brian Blackwood, and Todd Sorter.  Interment is at Hillside Cemetery in lake Wilson, MN.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton from 4-6 p.m. and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday.
