In Loving Memory of

Harry Theodore Atkins

Harry Atkins was born on December 1, 1927 in Slayton, Minnesota to William and Mary Stein Atkins.  He grew up on the family farm near Slayton and attended Country School District #57.  On December 8, 1950 Harry enlisted in the United States Army and served in Korea.  Following his honorable discharge on September 9,1952 he returned to Slayton.  On September 5, 1953 he and Patricia Campbell were married in Currie, MN.  Following their marriage they made their home on a farm northwest of Slayton and raised their two children.  Harry worked as a hired man for Ole and Bill Johnson.  In 1982 they moved to Lake Wilson, MN and Harry operated the Coop in Lake Wilson.  Harry retired in 1992 following the Chandler-Lake Wilson tornado as the coop was destroyed.  Harry passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 88.  Harry took pride in his yard and his John Deere Mower.  He especially loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Pat Atkins of Lake Wilson, MN, two children and their spouses, Kathy and Robert Wahl of Avoca, MN, and James and Julie Atkins of Marshall, MN, 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and their families.  He is preceded in death by his parents, and 10 brothers and sisters. 

Memorial Services

St. Mary’s Church in Lake Wilson, MN on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Gregory Parrott officiating.  The organist is Judy Andrews.  The song leader is Sheila Crowley.  The honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren.  Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens in Slayton, MN.  Military honor accorded by the Lake Wilson American Legion Post. 

Visitation will be on hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday.
