In Loving Memory of

Kenneth “Kenny” Orville Steffen

Kenny Steffen was born on July 8, 1944 in Lakefield, Minnesota to Randall and Tillie Kaderabek Steffen.  He grew up in Lakefield until 1958 when the family moved to Westbrook, MN.  Kenny graduated from Storden High School in 1962.  Following high school Kenny moved to Sioux Falls, SD.  On February 13, 1965 he and Wendy Silvernale were married at the Currie Presbyterian Church in Currie, MN.  Following their marriage they made their home in Sioux Falls.  Kenny owned and operated Skelgas Delivery Truck in Pipestone, MN until 1968 when he went to work for Pan-O-Gold in Sioux Falls.  In 1969 they moved to an acreage near Westbrook, MN and raised their two daughters.  Kenny worked at Champion Homes in Slayton and also owned and operated Ken’s Corner in rural Westbrook.  In 1971 Kenny owned and operated a bulk milk truck and contracted for Land-O-Lakes out of Mountain Lake, MN.  In 1980 Kenny went to work for UPS in Slayton doing deliveries and driving a feeder semi-truck route.  For over 30 years Kenny also sold Electrolux Vacuums.  He retired from UPS in 2007 but for the past few years he drove semi for Larry Smith of Avoca Spray.  Kenny passed away at the Sanford Westbrook Hospital in Westbrook, MN on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at the age of 71.  He was a member of the Currie Presbyterian Church.  Kenny enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, gardening, fishing, hunting, singing karaoke, and trips to area casinos.  Kenny could fix anything and enjoyed tinkering around.  He loved to make soup and was known for his potato soup.  Kenny will be remembered for his willingness to help out his neighbors and friends or anyone in need. In true fashion Kenny’s final act of generosity was being a donor.

Survivors include his wife, Wendy Steffen of Fulda, MN, two daughters and their spouses, Michelle and Doug Storm of Mankato, MN, and Melissa and A.J. Schulz of Mahtomedi, MN; five grandchildren, Zachary and Sierra Storm, and Miranda, McCauley and Madden Schulz; six siblings and their spouses, Willard Steffen and his Fiancée Lois Huerkamp of Janesville, MN, Paulette and Bruce Fowlds of Crooks, SD, Bernard and Linda Steffen of Blair, NE, Sharon and Harvey VandeVoort of Woodstock, MN, Linda and Dwight Schuld of Tea, SD, Marlene and Ron VandeVoort of Pipestone, MN; mother-in-law, Maxine Silvernale of Slayton, MN; two sisters-in-law, Deb and Kenny Bassett and Robin and Rob Leonard both of Currie, MN and many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, Robert Silvernale, and one sister-in-law, Sondra Steffen.
