Larry Obert Aanenson

Larry Aanenson was born on October 18, 1942 in Luverne, Minnesota to Obert and Bernadine (Dena) Hisken Aanenson. He grew up in the Leota and Edgerton area and graduated from Luverne High School in 1960. On June 19, 1960 Larry enlisted in the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge on June 18, 1963 he returned to Luverne and worked at the creamery driving truck. On April 17, 1964 he and Nola Clark were married at the First Congregational Church in Sioux Falls, SD. Following their marriage they made their home in Luverne and Larry continued working at the creamery and later established his own route. In 1972 they moved to Slayton where Larry drove truck, worked for area farmers and drove school bus. Larry's uncle, Russell Aanenson got him interested in Locksmith. In 1987 Larry started his own locksmith business while continuing to drive school bus and also driving the Murray County Heartland Express. Larry retired in 2006. Larry passed away on May 19, 2008 at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 65. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Slayton and served as trustee, usher, and church locksmith. He also was a member of the Slayton American Legion Post. Larry enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, and hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Nola Aanenson of Slayton, MN, three children, Wendy Aanenson of Fairchild, WI, Kristi Aanenson of Sioux Falls, SD, Kevin Aanenson of Coon Rapids, MN, 6 grandchildren, Kyle and Kaylee Catlin, Cassandra Aanenson, and Zachary, Tyler and Ashley Aanenson, two brothers and their spouses, Donnie and Loretta Aanenson, of Minneapolis, MN, David and Sandra Aanenson, Sioux City, IA, and one sister, Judy Hanson and her husband, Cleon of Garden City, KS. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents.

Funeral Services

First Presbyterian Church in Slayton, MN on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 10:30 AM with Rev. David Poppen officiating. The organist is Alice Magnus. The pallbearers are Keith Aanenson, Dennis Aanenson, Lee Aanenson, Steve Bennett, Lyle Bly, David Doman, and Pete Olivier. The honorary pallbearers are Bill and Kathy Ellefson, Roy and Linda Moeller, and Eddie and Lila Vermeer. Interment at Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton, MN. Military honors accorded by the Slayton VFW Post and the Slayton American Legion Post.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton from 4-7 PM and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials.
