Margaret Elizabeth Short

Margaret Short was born on April 7, 1925 on the family farm in Lime Lake Township, Murray County, Minnesota to Michael and Josephine Harty Short.  She was baptized at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Avoca, MN.  Margaret attended country school and graduated from Slayton High School in 1943.  On April 5, 1943 she started working for the local telephone company, Central Electric and Telephone Company, which later was known as Central Telephone Company.  She held various positions and remained there until the Slayton office closed in April 1977.  Margaret then went to work for the State of Minnesota, Department of Education, Title I Area Office.  She remained there for 10 years until the office closed in 1987 at which time she retired.  In January 2016 Margaret became a resident of the Golden Living Center-Slayton.  She passed away there on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the age of 91.  She was a member of St. Ann’s Church in Slayton and was active in the WCCW.   Margaret also was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America since 1954. 

She in survived by two nieces and their spouses, Patricia and Nick Malinowsky of Minneapolis, and Wendy Sue and Larry Muenchow of Tracy, MN; three nephews and their spouses, Robert and Carol Short of San Antonio, TX, Daniel and Linda Short of Raleigh NC, and Dale and Margaret (Peggy) Short of Excelsior, MN and several grand nieces and nephews and their families.  She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and their spouses, Bill and Edythe Short, M. Raymond and Leota Short, and John and Gretta Short, niece, Sharon Knudsen, nephews, Barrie Short, Roger Short and infant son of Robert and Carol Short. 

Funeral Services

St. Ann’s Church in Slayton, MN on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Gregory Parrott officiating.  The organist is Judy Andrews.  The song leader is Rita Lear.  The pallbearers are Robert Short, Dan Short, Dale Short Nick Malinowsky, Larry Muenchow and Gerald Giesen.   Interment is at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Slayton, MN.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday.  In lieu of flower memorials may be directed to St. Ann’s Church or Murray County Hospice.
