Marie Henrietta Emerita Muck

Marie Muck was born on June 1, 1919 on the family farm near Iona, Minnesota to Joseph and Rose Oberbrockling Huerkamp.  She grew up on the family farm and attended St. Columba School in Iona.  On December 14, 1940 she and Orville Muck were married at the Lutheran parsonage in Slayton, MN.  Following their marriage they made their home in Slayton.  Marie worked as dispatch for the Slayton City Police for 8 years and for the Murray County Sheriffs Department for 3 years.  In 1979 they moved to a home on Lake Sarah.  In 1992 they returned to Slayton.  Orville passed away on December 15, 2003.  Marie remained in their home until 2011 when she moved to Lindenwood Assisted Living in Slayton.  In 2014 Marie moved to the Good Samaritan Society-Westbrook where she passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at the age of 98.  She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton where she was active in the ladies group.  Marie was an honorary member of the Minnesota Sheriffs Association.  She also was a member of the Peoples Association of Lake Sarah (PALS), Slayton VFW Auxiliary and was the last member of the Sunny Side Birthday Club.  In her younger day’s Marie served as a Brownie Troop Leader.  Marie loved spending time with her daughter, Marlys and all of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Marie enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, playing cards, playing all kinds of games, word find puzzles, crocheting, and refinishing and reupholstering furniture.  A Worthington Daily Globe article featured Marie as an active senior.  She was pictured jumping rope at 85.  Marie will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great great-grandmother.

Survivors include her daughter, Marlys Hegstad and her husband, Leon of Slayton, MN, four grandchildren and their spouses, Perry and Stacey Hegstad, Todd and Jennifer Hegstad, Heather and Allan Huset, and Brett and Ann Hegstad, 14 great grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, three siblings, Irene McGowan of El Paso, TX, Marcella Chandler of Fresno, TX, and Marlene Holloway and her husband, Jim of Minneapolis, MN, one sister-in-law, Luella Huerkamp of Iona, MN, and several nieces, nephews and their families.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Orville, two great-grandsons, Nick Knutson and Sam Knutson, infant brother, Joseph Huerkamp, four brothers, Alvin, Mathias, Joseph (Jody), Leonard Huerkamp, five sisters, Sr. Josette, Frances Pommier, Eilzabeth Lehmann, Rosella Manderscheid, and Bernadine Steffes.

Funeral Services

Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on Monday, June 25, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Ted Kunze officiating.  The organist is LaDean Lang with special music by Bruce Dysthe and Nikki Cheskie.  The pallbearers are her great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.  Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens in Slayton, MN.

Visitation will be on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton from 4-6 p.m. and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.
