Melvin J. Ruppert

Melvin Ruppert, the son of John V. and Theresa (Reiter) Ruppert, was born on June 5, 1932 on a farm southeast of Currie, MN. He grew up on the farm and attended IHM Catholic School in Currie. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. After returning to Currie after his time in the service he farmed the family farm and attended Vo Ag Training in Slayton, MN. Melvin was united in marriage to JoEllyn Illg on October 5, 1955 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Avoca. After their marriage they lived and farmed southeast Currie. They retired from farming in 1993 and moved to their home in Currie in 1996. Melvin passed away on Monday, March 28, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society in Windom, MN at the age of 83. He was a lifetime member of IHM Catholic Church in Currie. Melvin belonged to the Knights of Columbus and the Currie American Legion. He was a former Murray Township Board member, former Calvary Cemetery Board member and was a past Currie City Council member. He enjoyed watching wrestling, fishing, especially ice fishing, gardening, going downtown for coffee with the guys and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, JoEllyn Ruppert of Currie, MN, 5 children, Rhonda (Mark) Meulebroeck of Balaton, MN, Melvin Jr. (Lois) Ruppert of Fairmont, MN, Kerry (Kimberly) Ruppert of Currie, MN, Tim (Jolleen) Ruppert of Garretson, SD and Brett (Carla) Ruppert of Worthington, MN; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers-in-law, Norbert Deslauriers of Canby, MN and Leo Wisdorf of Windom, MN and sister-in-law, Elaine Gaul of Fulda, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Phyllis Deslauriers.

Funeral Services

Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church Currie, MN at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 1, 2016 with Msgr. R. Paul Heiting celebrating.  The organist is Patty LeClaire. The song leader is LoAnn Hansen. The pallbearers are Myron Deslauriers, Craig Deslauriers, Donald Deslauriers, Robert Deslauriers, Curt Reiter and Gregg McConnell. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren, Amy Ruppert-Ngo, Jacob Ruppert, Andy Ruppert, Haylee Ruppert, Zachery Ruppert and Katelyn Ruppert. Interment at Calvary Cemetery Currie, MN.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 PM at the IHM Catholic Church in Currie with a 4:00 prayer service and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. The Totzke Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
