In Loving Memory Of

Rosella M. Steinman

Rosella Steinman was born on February 15, 1919 on the family farm on the shore of Lake Corabelle near Iona, Minnesota to Thomas and Florence Dahlhoff Scully.  She grew up on the family farm and attended country school and graduated from St. Columba High School.  Following high school Rosella attended normal teacher training.  She then taught in a country school near Iona.  During the War Rosella worked for Standard Oil Company in Oakland, CA as a Lab technician.  She then returned to the Midwest and enrolled in the Army Nurse Cadet Corp. receiving her R. N. certification from McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.  On June 23, 1948 she and Dayton R. Steinman were married at St. Columba Church in Iona.  Following their marriage they farmed in Elk Twp. Nobles County until 1953 when they moved to a farm in Chanarambie Twp. south of Lake Wilson.  Rosella worked as a registered nurse for Dr. R.F. Pierson and at the Slayton Hospital.  She later worked as the school nurse at the Chandler-Lake Wilson School until her retirement.   Following the Chandler-Lake Wilson tornado in 1992 they moved to Lake Wilson.  Rosella moved to the Lindenwood Apartments in Slayton in 2002.  Dayton passed away on October 23, 2003.  In 2004 Rosella moved to Chapel View Center in Hopkins, MN and later to the Golden Living Center-Hopkins where she passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the age of 93.   She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Lake Wilson.  Rosella was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Lake Wilson and the Iona VFW Auxiliary.  She was proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed several trips to Ireland.  Rosella also enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their cabin near Ottertail, MN.

Survivors include four sons and their wives, Tom and Peggy Steinman of Willmar, MN, Roger and Cheri Steinman of Lake Wilson, Lyle and Julee Steinman of Piedmont, SD and Bill and Sue Steinman of Hopkins, MN, seven grandchildren, Jeffrey, Melanie, Sarah, David, Jordyn, Gretchen, and Alec Steinman , two great grandchildren and three sisters, Leona Kremer, Eileen Toussaint and Alice Knutson all of Slayton, MN.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dayton Steinman, son, Danny Steinman, granddaughter, Pam Knutson, sister, Florence Nemmers and two brothers, Jim and Joe Scully.

Funeral Services

St. Mary’s Church in Lake Wilson, MN on Thursday July 5, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. James Seitz officiating with music by Group Therapy.   The pallbearers are Paul DeGreeff, Kent Carlson, Gary Bruxvoort, Roger Johnson, Richard Johnson and Dave Kremer.  Interment is at Hillside Cemetery, Lake Wilson, MN.  Memorial will be directed to the Murray County Hospice in Slayton and to the Methodist Hospital Hospice in Hopkins.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton from 4-7 p.m. with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday.
