Steven Freddie Johansen

Steve Johansen was born on April 6, 1948 in Slayton, Minnesota to Fredrick (Freddie) and Arlene Moat Johansen.  He grew up on an acreage east of Slayton and graduated from Slayton High School in 1968.  Following high school Steve attended Jackson Vocational School graduating in 1970.  Steve served in the Minnesota National Guards.  On April 9, 1970 he and Diane Barents were married at the Pfingsten Lutheran Church in rural Fulda, MN.  Following their marriage they made their home in New Ulm, MN for a short time before moving to Slayton.  Steve worked for Slayton Electric for a time before starting Johansen Electric, which he operated for many years.  Diane passed away on March 1, 1994.  Steve passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at t he age of 69.  He was a member of the Slayton First Presbyterian Church.  He also was a member of the Avoca American Legion Post.  Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting antiques and driving around town.

Survivors include his son, John Johansen of Slayton, MN, his mother, Arlene Johansen of Slayton, MN, two siblings and their families, Gary and Dawn Johansen of Fort Worth, TX, and Wendy and John Beckius of Glenwood Springs, CO.  He is preceded in death by his father, Freddie, wife, Diane and daughter, Candy Johansen.

Memorial Services

Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton, MN on Monday, June 12, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with Dave Erickson officiating.  Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton, MN.  Military honors accorded by the Avoca American Legion  Post and the Slayton American Legion Post.
