In Loving Memory Of

Chester Ginn

Chester Ginn was born on September 21,1927 on the family farm in Lowville Township, Murray County, Minnesota to Harold and Linda Gudmundson Ginn.  He grew up on the family farm north of Lake Wilson and attended District #72 Country School and graduated from Lake Wilson High School in 1945.  On October 9, 1950 Chester enlisted in the United States Air Force.  Staff Sergeant Ginn served as a mechanic and had a crew of 30 men to oversee.  Chester and his crew where able to fix anything that needed to be fixed.  Following his honorable discharge on October 8, 1954 he returned to the family farm.  On April 10, 1955 he and Idalia Imelda Pacheco were married in Laredo, TX.  Following their marriage they farmed south of Lake Wilson and raised their three daughters.  While farming Chester also worked for the United States Post Office in Lake Wilson as a rural mail carrier.  In 2007 Chester retired and they moved to Slayton.  On October 2, 2014 Chester became a resident of the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda and passed away there on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at the age of 87.  He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lake Wilson where he served as a Trustee, was active in the men’s group and was a past Chairman of the Board. Chester also served on the Chanarambie Township Board for over 30 years, the Hillside Cemetery Board and was past president of the Lake Wilson Community Club.  He was a member of the Lake Wilson American Legion Post where he served as past Commander and was active in the Current Lake Sportsmen’s Club and Buffalo Ridge Ducks Unlimited.  Chester’s greatest joy was his family.  He enjoyed keeping a daily journal, fishing, traveling, and watching sports.  Chester especially loved watching his grandson Chris play hockey.

Survivors include his wife, Idalia Ginn of Slayton, MN; three daughters: Janine Vande Velde and her husband, Mark of West Fargo, ND; Sandra Townsend and her husband, Jim of Seattle, WA; Lisa Ginn and her fiancé, Hossein Azhakh of Shoreview, MN; four grandchildren: Ashley Vande Velde (Aaron Holtan), Newfolden, MN; Christopher (Olivia) Vande Velde, Philadelphia, PA; Delaney Townsend and Grant Townsend, Seattle, WA; two great-grandchildren: Declan Holtan and Levin Vande Velde; one sister, Loretta Erickson of Slayton, MN, and several nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents; infant brother Donald; sister Phyllis Pickering; brother Leroy Ginn and brothers-in-law, Earl Erickson and John Pickering.

Memorial Services

United Methodist Church in Lake Wilson, MN on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Jon Marburger officiating.  The organist is Julie Brossard with special music by Heidi Winter.  Interment is at Hillside Cemetery in Lake Wilson, MN.  Military honors accorded by the Lake Wilson American Legion Post.

Visitation will be on Monday, October 13, 2014 at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton from 4-7 p.m. and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday.
