James D. Larson
James D. Larson, age 89, died peacefully in his sleep on March 9, 2024 at Good Samaritan Society in Sioux Falls SD. James was born September 17, 1934 to Erick and Mary (Fried) Larson of Dundee, Minnesota, one of five siblings. James grew up in Dundee MN attended Dundee Catholic church. James met Walter DesLauriers, who introduced him to his daughter, Lois. The two were joined in marriage on October12, 1957. James made their home in Fort Bliss Texas, where he was stationed in the army, then moved to Windom, and Worthington, MN where he worked for the power plant. In 1969, Larson’s Commercial Fishing business was born. He worked road construction and commercial fishing for a few years. In in 1972, they bought nine acres of farm land in Fulda, MN, built their home and buildings and lived there for 45 years. James sold his business in 2009 and retired to restore and sell antiques. In late 2017, James moved to Grand Living in SD where he resided with Lois, and finally to Good Samaritan Nursing Home.
James loved anything outdoors including hunting, fishing and trapping. James grew up in humble beginnings. However, the house was full of God’s love. At 17, James quite school to work at the state game and fishery at Lake Shetek. During this time, he lost his father. James was close to his mother and visited Dundee MN on weekends. He had an extended family of many and this included his fishing crew. Jim was very honest and would do anything for anyone. James was a devoted husband of 65 years. He loved his children and had a soft spot for his grandchildren.
Survivors include his 2 children, Brenda (Larson) Kuhle of Olathe, Kansas and Walter (Marila da Silva) Larson of Naperville, Illinois. Two grandchildren, Alayna Watts of Kansas City and Azalea Watts Grey of Boston, Massachusetts. The mother of his grandson, Caleb, Cindy (Don) Mullennex of Northfield, Minnesota. He is also survived by his Sister Arleen Huls of Worthington, Minnesota. and 4 nieces and 7 nephews. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Lois in 2021, his grandson Caleb James Larson in 2016, and former son-in-law Dave Neyens in 2017; siblings, Richard and Donnie Larson, and LaVonne Zishka.
Funeral Services
St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church Fulda, MN at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 with Fr. Peter Schuster celebrating. The organist is Dana Hogan. The song leader is Sheila Crowley. Interment at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery Fulda, MN.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda is assisting the family with arrangements.
