Arlene Mina Johansen

Arlene Johansen was born on May 30, 1930 in Balaton, Minnesota to Harvey and Martha Anderson Moat.  She grew up near Balaton and attended Country School District #101.  On November 29, 1947 she and Fredrick “Freddie” Johansen, were married at the Methodist Parsonage in Slayton, MN.  Following their marriage, they farmed the Johansen family farm and raised their three children.  They retired in the early 1980’s but remained living on the farm.  Freddie passed away on December 6, 2003.  Following Freddie’s death, Arlene moved to Slayton.  Arlene passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at the Murray County Medical Center in Slayton at the age of 87.  She was a member of the Currie Presbyterian Church.  Arlene enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, fishing, reading, embroidering and painting dishtowels, watching games shows, yard sales, baking and playing cards.

Survivors include her two children and their spouses, Gary and Dawn Johansen of Fort Worth, TX and Wendy and John Beckius of Grand Junction, CO, five grandchildren, John Johansen, Kristin (Cesar) Casares, Anna (Nicholas) Punches, Cody Beckius (Alisha Stock) and Shane Beckius, three great-grandchildren and one brother, Wayne Moat of Minnesota.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Freddie, son, Steve Johansen and his wife, Diane, granddaughter, Candace “Candy” Johansen, grandson, Jesse Beckius, three sisters, Audrey Lohrbach, Alyce Falin, and Ardyce Johnson, and four brothers, Roger, Orville, Harlan, and Orlan Moat.  A private family service was held with Dave Erickson officiating.  Interment was at Slayton Memorial Gardens in Slayton, MN.
