I met Doug in the summer of 1984 at Army Basic Training in Fort Benning, GA. We were immediate friends and were inseparable, but over the years, we lost touch. I am in Minn. for work and thought that I would look him up. I am so saddened to see his obituary; seeing his photo brought both a big smile and tears to my eyes. I only knew him for a short time but almost 40 years later, Big Red is still in my heart. He was larger than life, strong as a bull, but as gentle as a beautiful spring day. Farewell to my infantry Battle Buddy -- I know the loss has left a huge void in your family, and I extend my most heartfelt condolences to them; may God comfort them.

I knew Doug as "Big Red". He was a kind, gentle, and big guy with a heart of gold. He would help anyone out if they needed it. He was a really good pool player as well! He will be deeply missed by many people, especially the pool world. I loved his smile, it would light up the whole room! Especially at pool tournament's. He will definitely be one of God's special angels. 😉😊😎 Lot's of hugs and prayers to all the family and close friends!!

Bill and I discussed Doug's (Big Red's) passing and discovered that neither of us knew him well, but will never forget him. His wide smile, boisterous laugh, and giant personality were evident from the first time I ever met him. Our sympathies to his family and close friends.
