Elizabeth “Betty” Grimmius

Betty Grimmius was born June 16, 1930 in Edgerton, Minnesota to Gerrit and Hattie DeMots Mesman.  Betty grew up on the family farm near Edgerton and attended grade school in Edgerton.  Betty’s high school years were spent attending a Christian high school in Hull, IA.  On March 10, 1949 she and Floyd Grimmius were married in Edgerton.  Following their marriage they farmed near Chandler, MN and raised their six children.  Floyd retired in 1982 and they moved to Worthington, MN.  Betty attended Worthington Community College and graduated with a LPN Degree.  Betty worked for Nobles County Community Services as well as at the Slayton Manor and the Slayton Hospital.  In 1991 they moved to Slayton, MN.  Floyd passed away on February 17, 1996.  Betty remained in her home until she moved to Sunrise Terrace Apartments in Slayton in 2014 she moved to Lindenwood Assisted Living in Slayton and in 2017 she became a resident of the Slayton Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Slayton.  Due to failing health Betty moved to Our House Hospice Home in May 2019.  She passed away there on July 1, 2019 at the age of 89.  She was a member of the Hadley Lutheran Church in Hadley, MN.  Betty enjoyed spending time with her family, fishing, traveling, dancing and playing cards.

Survivors include her five children and their spouses, Russell and Denise Grimmius of Salem, WI, Brenda and Doug Magnus of Sioux Falls, SD, DeAnn Grimmius and Dave Hehl of Brooklyn Park, MN, Sue and Jim Tutt of Lake Wilson, MN and Earl Grimmius and Sandra Grimmius of Brandon, SD, 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Johanna Berghuis of Sioux Falls, SD and Josephine Windemuller and her husband, Ed of Grand Rapids, MI.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Floyd, daughter, Lisa Grimmius, four sisters, and two brothers.

Memorial Services

Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton, MN on Friday, July 12, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Dave Hollis officiating.  The honorary pallbearers are grandsons, Justin Ogg, Clint Magnus, Dalton Grimmius, Taylor Tutt, Colton Grimmius and Ridge Grimmius.  Interment is at Highland Home Cemetery in Hadley, MN.

Visitation will be from 2:00 until 2:30 p.m. on Friday at the Totzke Funeral Home.
