Ellen Marie Cahill

Ellen Cahill was born June 19, 1921 on the family farm in Pipestone County, Minnesota to John and Ellen Flannery Wilkinson. She attended school in Lake Wilson, Worthington and Mankato.  On May 6, 1946 she and Walter (Bill) Cahill were married at the St. Rose of Lima Rectory in Avoca, MN.  Following their marriage they made their home in Lake Wilson, MN.  Ellen worked in the Murray County Assessors Office until 1983 when she retired.  She and Bill also worked as custodians at St. Mary’s Church in Lake Wilson for many years.  Bill passed away on May 21, 2003.  Ellen remained in her home until June 27, 2017 when she moved to Our House Hospice Home in Slayton.  She passed away there on Sunday, July 2, 2017, at the age of 96.  She was a member of St. Mary ‘s Church in Lake Wilson and was active in the CCW.  She also was a member of the Lake Wilson American Legion Auxiliary and Lake Wilson Senior Citizens.  Ellen was a past member of the Catholic Daughter of America.  Ellen enjoyed spending time with family, playing pinochle and trips to the casino.

Survivors include four children and their spouses, Judy and Darrell Wicklund of Battle Lake, MN, Jim Cahill and Margie Hauck of Atlanta, GA, Susan and Curt Buck of Plainview, MN, and Carmen and Scott Barry of Garfield, MN 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bill, two brothers and their spouses, John Jr. Wilkinson and Vincent Wilkinson and his wife, Connie.

Funeral Services

St. Mary’s Church in Lake Wilson, MN on Thursday, July 6, 2017 with Fr. Thien Nguyen officiating with special music by Group Therapy.  The pallbearers are her grandchildren.  Interment is Hillside Cemetery in Lake Wilson, MN. 

Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton from 4-7 p.m. with a rosary at 4:30.  Visitation will also be one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday.
