Irene Metha Johnson

Irene Johnson was born on December 26, 1919 on the family farm in Willow Lake Township, Redwood County, Minnesota to Henry and Ella Koch Berg.  In 1927 the family moved to Wanda, MN.  In 1938 Irene moved to Sleepy Eye, MN and worked for a local family.  Irene graduated from Lamberton High School in 1938 with honors.  On June 1, 1944 she and Orlo Endresen were married in Sleep Eye.  Following their marriage they made their home in Milwaukee, WI until 1947 when they moved to St. Peter, MN for two years and then to Park Rapids, MN for three years.  They then moved to Grand Rapids, MN until 1961 when they moved to Slayton, MN.  Irene worked for C.N. Miller Insurance Agency in Slayton.  Orlo passed away on March 27, 1967.  On June 27, 1981 she and Douglas Johnson were married at Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton.  Irene retired in 1982.  Doug passed away on September 6, 2009. In 2016 Irene moved Ecumen Prairie Hill Assisted Living in St. Peter where she passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at the age of 98.  Irene was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton. Irene served as Sunday School Principal, Release Time Teacher, Bible Camp Counselor, Circle Chair, youth Leader and on the Altar Guild.  Irene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She enjoyed visiting with people of all ages and had a ready smile and a hug for all that passed her way. Irene enjoyed reading, collecting bells, sports, and traveling.

Survivors include her two sons and their spouses, Bob and Beverly Endresen of Goodyear, AZ, and Terry and Carol Endresen of Kasota, MN, five grandchildren Neil and Nicole Endresen, Kevin and Gina Endresen, Carrie and Gary Enneking, Kristi and Tim Schultz and Jeff and Katie Endresen, 12 great grandchildren, Michael, Konrad, Alanna Endresen, Mya Endresen, Nathan, Kaya and Logan Enneking, Abbey and Colten Lindsey Jacob Powers-Endresen, Carter, and Brea Schultz, five step-children, Janice Tellinghuisen of Battle Lake, MN, Jerry Johnson of Sarasota, FL, Joan and Jim  Fleming of Madison, WI, Jim and Diane Johnson of Slayton, MN, and Jill and Brad  Engebertson of Marshall, MN, several step-grandchildren and step-great-children, two sisters, Gladys Polzin of Windom, MN, and Marcella Dammann and her husband, Stan of Springfield, MN and one sister-in-law, Shirley Berg of Punta Gorda, FL.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Orlo Endresen and Doug Johnson, brothers, Henry Berg and his wife, Ruth, and Jerry Berg, sister, Lucille Davis and her husband, Richard and one brother-in-law, Laurence Polzin.

Funeral Services

Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dawn Quam officiating.  The organist is Theresa Nysevold with special music by Sheila Crowley.  The pallbearers are Neil Endresen, Kevin Endresen, Jeff Endresen, Jacob Endresen, Tim Schultz, and Gary Enneking.  Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens in Slayton, MN.
