Joan Mae Dahlgren

Joan Dahlgren was born on August 12, 1933 in Sioux City, Iowa to C. James and Amelia Swanson Petrow.  She grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School.  On April 7, 1956 she and Carroll “Stan” Dahlgren were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City.  Following their marriage they made their home in Sioux City until 1959 when they moved to a farm near Wakefield, NE.  In 1965 they moved to a farm near Slayton, MN and raised their six children.  Joan worked as the coordinator for the Slayton Senior Dinning Program for over 20 years.  She also was the bookkeeper for Dahlgren Agri.  In 2012 Joan became a resident at Ecumen Meadows in Worthington and in 2013 she moved to the Slayton Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.  Stan passed away on May 4, 2016.  On January 29, 2018 due to failing health Joan moved to Our House Hospice Home in Slayton where she passed away on Monday, February 5, 2018 at the age of 84.  She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton where she was active in the ladies aid and taught Sunday school.  Joan volunteered with the Reading Buddies Program at West Elementary School.  Joan was the happiest when she was with Stan and her family.

Survivors include her six children and their spouses, Joel and Rhonda Dahlgren of New Ulm, MN, Leslie Dahlgren of Slayton, MN, Traci and Douglas Bonine of Holland, MN, Jay and Tammy Dahlgren of Westfield Center, OH, Eric and Sarah Dahlgren of Hadley, MN, and Christina and Christopher Wolner of Montevideo, MN, 13 grandchildren, Nicholas and Hannah Dahlgren and Taylor and Ryan Clark, James, Angela, and Vanessa Dahlgren, Maya Bledsoe, Alexandra, Eva and Ella Wolner, Andrew and Mackenzie Bonine and Andrew and Daniel Kitzberger, four great-grandchildren, Ethan Robbins, Mazy Kitzberger, Pyper Kitzberger and Cameron Bonine, one sister, Jeri Dahlgren of North Platte, NE, one sister-in-law, Bonnie Petrow of New Palestine, IN, and one brother-in-law, Gordon Dahlgren and his wife, Connie of Scottsdale, AZ.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Stan, one son, C. Stanley Dahlgren Jr., one brother, Jim Petrow, her father and mother-in-law, Joel and Rosetta Dahlgren, one brother-in-law, Robert Dahlgren, and one sister-in-law, Inez Dahlgren.

Funeral Services

Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dawn Quame officiating.  The organist is Theresa Nysetvold with special music by Heidi Winter.  The pallbearers are her grandchildren.  Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens in Slayton, MN.

Visitation will be on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton from 4-7 p.m. and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.
