Joan Margaret Sauer

Joan Sauer, the daughter of John H. and Margaret Balluff Diekmann, was born on August 18, 1933 in Adrian, Minnesota. She grew up on the family farm near Lismore, MN and attended school at St. Kilian and graduated from Worthington High School in 1951. Joan was united in marriage to William Sauer on October 24, 1955 at St. Kilian Catholic Church in St. Kilian, MN. After their marriage they lived on a farm west of Fulda their entire married lives. Joan worked as a secretary for many years at the Worthington High School, Sterling Drug, Riley Law office and St. Gabriel's Church and School. Joan passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at the Our House Hospice Home in Slayton, MN at the age of 76. She was a member of St. Gabriel's Church in Fulda where was active with the WCCW. Joan was also a member of Fulda American Legion Auxiliary, Fulda Reading Club, Fulda Heritage Society, Bondin/Belfast Club, Bondin Township clerk, lecture group, quilting group, Bondin Leisure Hour, Fulda Pink Ladies and Fulda Lions. She enjoyed her grandchildren, playing cards, taking pictures, reading, puzzles, traveling, cross stitch, crocheting, buying gifts. She also liked cooking for the deer hunters in her family, watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and The Price is Right, going to the Fulda Meal Site, collecting angels and spoons and spending time at the cabin on Bloody Lake with her friends and family.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Sauer of Fulda, MN, three children, Bruce (Barb) Sauer of Albert Lea, MN, Barry (Kerry) Sauer of Lismore, MN and Thomas (Patricia) Sauer of Ames, IA; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Loren (Mary) Diekmann of Wells, MN and Vernon (Marianne) Diekmann of Madison, AL; sister, Caroline (John Halbrehder) Diekmann of Sparta, WI; other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Myron Diekmann.

Funeral Services

St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, Fulda, MN at 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 17, 2009 with the Fr. Jeffrey Dobbs officiating. The organist is Mary Ann Boom. The song leader is Lloyd Winter. The pallbearers are her grandchildren, Erin, Clint, Whitney, Anna, Alissa, Megan, Morgan, Nicholas and Olivia Sauer. Interment at St. Gabriel's Cemetery Fulda, MN.

Visitation will be Friday at St. Gabriel's Church from 4 to 7 PM with a 4:30 rosary and 7 PM prayer service and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda is assisting the family with arrangements. Sign guestbook online at www.totzkefuneralhome.com.
