Kim Marie Kalas
Kim Kalas was born on December 2, 1964 in Tyler, Minnesota to Robert (Bob) and Marilyn Houselog Udstuen. The family lived in Ruthton, MN then moved to a farm near Balaton, MN. The family later moved to a farm near Hadley before moving to Slayton in the early 1970’s. Kim graduated from Slayton High School in 1983. Kim made her home in Fulda and later Windom where her three children were born. In 1994 she moved to Slayton where she raised her children. Kim attended Pipestone Vo-Tech receiving her LPN Degree. Kim worked at Prairieview in Slayton until 2009 when an accident left her paralyzed. In 2010 Kim moved to an apartment in Marshall, MN. Kim passed away at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 54. Kim loved being a mom and grandmother. Her happiest times where spent with her family. Kim enjoyed reading, doing puzzles and collecting dolls, mythical creatures as well as many other things.
Survivors include her three children Amber Kalas and Tim Boyum-Lanoue of Marshall, MN, Crystal Kalas and Chris Krump of Wahpeton, ND, and Dean Kalas and Kathleen Cimburek of Marshall, MN, six grandchildren Ambrose, Bethanie, and Helena Boyum-Lanoue, Jayce Sammons, Olivia and Scarlett Kalas, her mother, Marilyn Udstuen of Slayton, MN, three siblings, Kathryn and Kevin Christians of Chanhassen, MN, Keith Udstuen and Tom Hudson Jr. of Hadley, MN, and Kelly and Tom Orvis of Marshall, MN, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Bob Udstuen, and her grandparents, Joseph Sr. and Helen Houselog, and Obert and Aagot Udstuen.
Memorial Services
St. Ann’s Church in Slayton, MN on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Thien Nguyen officiating. The organist is Sharon Lais. The song leader is Sheila Crowley. Interment is at St. Martin’s Cemetery in Woodstock, MN.
Visitation will be on Friday, December 14, 2018 at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton from 4-6 p.m. and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.
