Marie Catherine Ommen

Marie Ommen, the daughter of John and Elise (Pfingsten) Koopman, was born on April 30, 1917 in Bondin Twp., Murray Co., MN. She grew up on the Elm Grove Farm near Lime Creek, MN and attended Dist. 54 Country School in Belfast Twp. Marie was united in marriage to Jake Ommen on April 11, 1940 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda. After their marriage they lived and farmed on the Ommen family farm northwest of Fulda. In 1993 they retired from farming and moved into Fulda. Marie remained at home after Jake passed away in April of 2003. She moved to the Maple View Estates in the summer of 2005 and then Maple Wood Courts in October of 2008. Marie entered the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in November of 2011 and passed away there on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at the age of 100. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda where she was active with the Ladies Aid and the choir. She also belonged to the Fulda Pink Ladies and volunteered at the nursing home. Marie enjoyed ceramics, singing, cooking, baking, gardening and lending a hand to those in need.

Survivors include her 5 children, Jerome “Joe” Ommen of Sioux Falls, SD, Verlyn “Doc” (Marilyn) Ommen of Fulda, MN, Kathi Reid of Minnesota Lake, MN, Les (Karen) Ommen of Laramie, WY and Lu (Sue) Ommen of Harmony, MN; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Norma Meek of Annandale, MN and Lorine “Tudy” Clapp of Alberta Canada; brother, A.W. Koopman of Fulda, MN; 3 sisters-in-law, Gerda Koopman of Litchfield, MN, Dorothy Koopman of Little Falls, MN and Kathryn Koopman of Spearfish, SD. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson, Michael Ommen, son-in-law, Lloyd Reid, 5 brothers, Marvin, Henry, Wilbert, Lester and Vernon Koopman and sister, Wilma Farmer.

Funeral Services

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Fulda, MN at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 26, 2017 with Rev. Shawn Ethridge officiating.  The organist is Loretta Gehl. The soloist is A.W. Koopman. The pallbearers are her grandchildren. Interment at Prairie Hill Cemetery Fulda, MN.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda is assisting the family with arrangements.
