Maxine Ruth Prahm

Maxine Prahm was born on October 31, 1932 in Rock County, Minnesota to Ralph and Vivienne Hocking Meyer.  She grew up on the family farm near Kanaranzi, MN and graduated from Luverne High School in 1950.  On December 17, 1950 she and Douglas “Squeak” Prahm were married in Luverne.  Following their marriage, they made their home in Slayton where they raised their seven children.  Squeak passed away on March 21, 2008.  Maxine passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, October 20, 2019 surrounded by her loving family at the age of 86.  She was a member of the Slayton Presbyterian Church where she was active in the ladies group.  She also was a member of the Slayton Piecemaker Quilting Group.  Maxine enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, quilting, canning, bowling, and going to auctions.

Survivors include her seven children and their spouses, Patricia and Mike Lowe of Mankato, MN, Larry Prahm of Brainerd, MN, Roger and Beth Prahm of Slayton, MN, Michael and Rita Prahm of Wichita, KS, Jill and Dave Kafta of Granite Falls, MN, Susan and Steve Zenk of Hadley, MN, and William and Joan Prahm of Slayton, MN, 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, three siblings, Dorothy Sherburne of Topeka, KS, Marilyn and Ronnie Munns of Osakis, MN and Gene and Rosie Meyer of Willmar, MN, and two sisters-in-law, Lois Meyer of Luverne, MN and Doris Meyer of Arlington, MN.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Squeak, grandson, Nick Zenk, two great-granddaughters, Lorin Prahm and Katelyn Pauling, six siblings and their spouses, Joy Meyer, Robert Meyer, Richard and Mary Meyer, Dallas Meyer, Pauline and Jim Hogue and Betty and Howard Iveland.

Funeral Services

Slayton Presbyterian Church in Slayton on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dave Hollis officiating.  The organist is Cathy Magnus with special music by her grandchildren, Brian Prahm, Alana McWilliams, Emily Kathman and Michelle Zenk.  The pallbearers are her granddaughters, Jessie Miles, Amy Kathman, Barbara Wendt, Kristy Pauling, Kelly Nelson, Jackie Veldhuisen, Molly Prahm, Alana McWilliams, Laura Sooby, Sam Prahm, Elizabeth Prahm, and Michelle Zenk.  Interment is at Hillside Cemetery in Lake Wilson, MN.

Visitation will be on Wednesday October 23, 2019 at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton from 4-6 p.m. and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday.
