Rodney Allen Wahl

Rodney Wahl, the son of Samuel and Amelia (Wenzel) Wahl, was born on August 1, 1933 on the family farm in Belfast Twp., Murray Co., MN. Rodney was baptized on September 3, 1933 and confirmed in 1948 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda. He grew up on the farm and attended country school Dist. 54 and the Fulda High School. He enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1955. Rodney was united in marriage to Irene Sell on September 9, 1956 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Windom. After their marriage they lived on the Wahl family farm where they farmed and raised their six children. Rodney remained at the farm after Irene passed away in September of 2013. Rodney passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the age of 85. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda where he had served as Trustee, Elder, Usher and the Stewardship Board. Rodney also was a supervisor on the Belfast Township and Commander of the Fulda American Legion for 6 years. He enjoyed living on the farm, gardening, woodworking and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his 6 children, Merlin (Lisa) Wahl of Sleepy Eye, MN, Curtis Wahl of Sleepy Eye, MN, Virgil (Kathy) Wahl of Avon, MN, Melvin Wahl of St. Peter, MN, Connie (Buck) Johlfs of Fulda, MN and Roger (Barb) Wahl of Burnsville, MN; 12 grandchildren, Joey, Tyler, Cortnie, Derek, Kayla, Ashley, Jillian, Tabitha, Brock, Stephanie, Aleigha and Kyle; 10 great-grandchildren, Trenton, Trace, Jackson, Hunter, Coraline, Carwyn, Cooper, Nolan, Audrey and Lauren; 3 brothers, DuWayne (Verna) Wahl of North Las Vegas, NV, Arlyn (Dawn) Wahl of Big Lake, MN and Harley (Jane) Wahl of Slayton, MN and 3 sisters, Marlene Sandhurst of New Ulm, MN, Marilyn Wahl of Windom, MN and Joann Sandbo of Windom, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 brothers, Donald and Kenneth Wahl and 2 brothers-in-law, Kenny Sandbo and Vince Sandhurst.

Funeral Services

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Fulda, MN at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 with Rev. Shawn Ethridge officiating.  The organist is Dr. Tiffany Gehl. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Interment at the Prairie Hill Cemetery Fulda, MN. Military honors provided by the Fulda American Legion Post 318 and VFW 9017.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda is assisting the family with arrangements. In Lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials.
