Virginia “Ginny” Kay Bertrand

Ginny Bertrand was born on September 27, 1960 in Worthington, Minnesota to Stanley and Doris Galles Diekmann.  She grew up in Lismore, MN and graduated from Adrian High School in 1979.  On May 3, 1980 she and Bruce Bertrand were married at St. Anthony’s Church in Lismore.  Following their marriage they made their home in Wilmont, MN, until 1987 when they moved to Slayton, MN.  Ginny was the Manager at Carrows Formal wear in Worthington until 1987 when she went to work at the Murray County Medical Center in Slayton.  In 2004 Ginny went to work for the Schwanns Call Center in Lake Wilson, MN and later started cooking at the Slayton Bakery.  Ginny retired in 2014 due to health reasons.  Ginny passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at her home in Slayton at the age of 58.  She was a member of St. Ann’s Church in Slayton where she served on the Church Council was a member of the CCW and helped with Faith Formation.  She also was a member of The Catholic Daughters of America.  Ginny volunteered with ACE of Murray County.  Ginny enjoyed being with her family, sewing, cooking, gardening, and snowmobiling.

Survivors include her husband, Bruce Bertrand of Slayton, MN, one daughter, Andrea Bertrand of Slayton, MN, one grandson, Chaser Ellingson, her mother, Doris Diekmann of Lismore, MN, nine siblings and their spouses, Dale and Linda Diekmann of Fort Meyers, FL, Jeff and Jill Diekmann of Lismore, MN, Lee Diekmann of New Port Richey, FL, Brad Diekmann of Chanhassen, MN, Tom and Lisa Diekmann of Lismore, MN, Marcie and Jim Cowan of Iona, MN, Sharon and Ken Rupp of Granite Falls, MN, Gene and Linda Diekmann of Savage, MN, and Layne and Luann Nelson of Stanley, ND, brother in-law, Nick Gaeta of Victorville, CA, sister-in-law, Wanda Jerousek of Jackson, MN and several family members and their families.  She is preceded in death by her son-in-law, Jeffrey Ellingson, father, Stanley Diekmann, sister, Julie Gaeta and brother, Roger Diekamnn.

Funeral Services

St. Ann’s Church in Slayton, MN on Monday, August 12, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Thien Nguyen officiating.  The organist is Kathy Mitchell.  The song leader is Sharon Rupp with special music by Hillary Rupp and Calista Kocmick.  The pallbearers are Tyler Christiansen, Brandon Diekmann, Ethan Cowan, Nathan Kocmick, Lee Diekmann and Randy Diekmann.  Interment will be at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Slayton, MN.

Visitation will be on Sunday, August 11, 2019 at St. Ann’s Church from 4-7 p.m.  with a CDA Rosary at 4:30 p.m.  Visitation will also be one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.
