Alice Gertrude Knutson

Alice Knutson was born on April 19, 1925, on the family farm in Iona Township, Murray County, Minnesota to Thomas and Florence Dahlhoff Scully.  She grew up on the family farm and graduated from St. Columba High School in 1943.  Alice was a member of the United States Cadet Nurse Corps (CNC) from 1943 to 1945.  Alice then attended McKennan Hospital School of Nursing in Sioux Falls, SD graduating in 1946.  On April 8, 1953, she and Norman Knutson were married at St. Columba Church in Iona.  Following their marriage, they made their home in Slayton, MN.  Alice worked as a R.N. at the Home Hospital in Slayton until the new Slayton Hospital was built.  While at the Slayton Hospital Alice worked as a Surgical Nurse retiring in 1990.  Norman passed away on December 15, 1993.  Alice remained in her home until 2021 when she moved to The Waters of Oakdale in Oakdale, MN to be near family.  Alice passed away there on Monday, August 4, 2025, at the age of 100.  She was a member of St. Ann’s Church in Slayton and was active in WCCW.  Alice was a member of the Catholic Daughter of America for over 65 years.  Alice was a Hospice volunteer, delivered Meals on Wheels, and was a volunteer at the Slayton Golden Living Center.  Alice enjoyed spending time with family, watching the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Timberwolves, crocheting, sewing, reading, crossword puzzles and playing Scrabble.

Survivors include her five children and their spouses, John and Patrice Knutson of Willmar, MN, Lynn and Gary Lidstone of Eagan, MN, Paul and Carla Knutson of Chaska, MN, Jane and Brian Windey of Marshall, MN, and Mary and David Kieffer of Woodbury MN, 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and their families.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Norman, son, Mark Knutson, grandson, Matthew Knutson, granddaughter, Sarah Carlson, siblings, James and Rose Scully, Joseph and Mae Scully, Florence and Quentin Nemmers, Rosella and Dayton Steinman, Leona and Ervin Kremer, and Eileen Toussaint. 

Funeral Services

St. Ann’s Church in Slayton, MN on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Peter Schuster officiating.  The organist is Sharon Lais.  The song leader is Sheila Crowley with special music by Olivia Kieffer, Caroline Kieffer, and Nathan Knutson.  The pallbearers are her grandsons, Alec Lidstone, Mark Lidstone, Blake Windey, Hunter Windey, Nathan Knutson, and Joseph Kieffer.  Interment is at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Slayton, MN.
