Arland Edward Tisdel
Arland Tisdel was born September 16, 1939, in Sinai, South Dakota to Clifford and Aletta Tonsager Tisdel. He grew up on a farm near Volga, SD and graduated from Volga High School in May 1957. On July 14th1962, Arland was united in marriage to Rita Weinacht at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Sioux Falls, SD. Following their marriage, they made their home in Volga, where Arland worked at a local mechanic shop. They then moved to Madison, SD, where Arland worked at Sidles Company as a purchasing manager. Arland and his family later returned to Volga, where he worked for Sidles in Brookings, SD. In 1975 Arland attended SDSU and graduated in 1978 with a double major in Agricultural Business and Rural Sociology. In 1978, they moved to Redwood Falls, MN. In 1980 the family moved to Iona, MN and Arland worked at Western Implement in Worthington as a parts manager, until he retired in August 2004. In 2022, Arland moved to Belgrade Nursing Home in Belgrade, MN and resided there until he passed on Friday, March 8, 2024, at the age of 84. Arland enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling, and being outdoors. Arland especially loved woodworking and spending time with his family.
Survivors include four children, Donald Tisdel of Sioux Falls, SD, Barbara and Bill Schmitz of New London, MN, Linda Tisdel of Willmar, MN, and Rebecca and Earl Huber of Pennock, MN, nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, one sister, Jerri Weinacht of Volga, SD, two sisters-in-law, and several nieces, nephews, and their families. He is proceeded in death by his parents, wife, Rita, son, Alan, grandson, Christopher Tisdel and brother, Curtis Tisdel.
Funeral Services
Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Robert Ossefoort officiating. The pallbearers are Benjamin Tisdel, Nathan Tisdel, Christopher Schmitz, Brandon Nelson, Raquel Schmitz, and Tiffany Schmitz. Interment is at St. Columba Cemetery in Iona, MN.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donating to a charity of your choice.
The family expresses their gratitude to friends, family, and neighbors, for all the thoughts, prayers, and acts of kindness during this time of deepest sorrow. A special thank you is extended to the community members of Iona who have provided friendship and support over the years, and to the nursing staff that lovingly cared for Arland.
