Arlen “Shorty” H.  Ohlrich

Shorty Ohlrich was born on June 16, 1939, in Chandler, Minnesota to Herman and Pearl Johnson Ohlrich.  He grew up in Iona and graduated from Slayton High School in 1958.  On May 27, 1961, he and Diane Payton were married at the Hadley Lutheran Church in Hadley, MN.  Following their marriage, they made their home in Hadley, rural Slayton, Fulda Windom and eventually back to Slayton.  Shorty worked for Caldwell Packing until 2004 when he retired.  Shorty passed away at his home in Slayton on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at the age of 83.  He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton.  Shorty enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking, traveling, camping, hiking, and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Ohlrich of Slayton, MN two children and their spouses, Scott and Wendy Ohlrich of Kalispell, MT and Jodi and Dan Schnell of Melvin, IA, five grandchildren, Brady Kipfer and Breanna Allen, Casey and Zoee Schnell, Stephanie and Justin Freeze, Alex Ohlrich and Jason Brown and four great-great grandchildren, Alice Schnell, Ember Schnell, Tylar Ohlrich and Shaylene Freeze.  He is preceded in death by his parents, twin sister, Arlis Vander Broek and three brothers, Orville, Willis, and Keith.
