Arliss Hein
Arliss Edwin Hein, the son of Arthur and Sylvia (Broesch) Hein, was born on August 1, 1931 in Hartley, IA. He grew up on a farm near Melvin, IA where he attended country school and graduated from the Melvin High School. Arliss attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, IA. He entered the US Army in October of 1952 and served until October of 1954. Arliss married Cleone Meyer on June 10, 1956. After their marriage they moved to a farm near Brewster, MN. Their marriage later dissolved and Arliss remained on the farm. On February 28, 1981 Arliss and Elaine (Moll) Smith were married in Worthington, MN. After their marriage they lived on his farm until 1994 when they moved into Fulda, MN. Elaine passed away in April of 2024. Arliss passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda at the age of 93. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda where he had served as Elder and Trustee. Arliss also served on the Prairie Hill Cemetery Board for many years. He enjoyed music, playing the piano, accordion and dancing.
Survivors include his children, Colleen (Al) Bestge of Fulda, MN, Randy (Unhui Gunderman) Hein of Brewster, MN, Pam (Calvin) Berger of Worthington, MN, Susan (Craig) Haskins of Ventura, CA, Brad (Shari) Smith of Talbot, TN and Karie (Kris) Karr of Fort Dodge, IA; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild and 1 great-grandchild expected soon. He is preceded in death by his parents, first and second wives and 2 great-grandsons, Kale and Madden.
Funeral Services
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Fulda, MN at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 with Rev. Shawn Ethridge officiating. The organist is Dr. Robin Gehl. The pallbearers are his grandchildren. Interment at Prairie Hill Cemetery Fulda, MN.
Visitation will be Monday, February 10, 2025 from 4 to 6 PM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda is assisting the family with arrangements.
