Arlys Post Obituary

In Loving Memory Of

Arlys Jean Post

Arlys Post was born on November 10, 1938 in Worthington, Minnesota to John and Helen Karstens Engelkes.  The family moved to Westbrook, MN in the mid 1940’s and later to a farm near Rushmore, MN where Arlys talked fondly about attending country school.  They settled in Slayton, MN in 1949 where her parents ran the Highway Grocery Store.  Arlys loved working in the grocery store and often talked about the process of candling eggs and testing cream.  Arlys graduated from Slayton High School in 1956.  Following high school, she attended Mankato State College for business.  In 1958 she and Alan Catiln where, married in Slayton.  Following their marriage, they made their homes in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. They owned and operated a couple grocery stores in Ellsworth, MN and Sibley, IA, finally settling in Slayton in 1978.  Arlys began working at the Norwest Bank in Slayton which later became Minnwest Bank.  Arlys and John Post were married on May 10, 1985.  Arlys retired from Minnwest Bank in 2002.  Arlys loved working with the Prime Timer’s through Minnwest Bank and traveled throughout the United States and other countries.  Some of the highlights were Alaskan cruises, traveling to Branson, MO, Norway and Sweden and their numerous fishing trips to Lake Michigan and the northern lakes of Minnesota. Arlys enjoyed the bus trips taking on the microphone, sharing stories, and playing games.  She was known as the “Hugger” she hugged everyone.  Her greatest experience was traveling to Russia with John and walking the Great Wall of China.  John passed away on June 23, 2014.  Arlys remained in the family home until March 20, 2021 when due to failing health, she was hospitalized and later moved to Ava’s House for hospice care in Sioux Falls, SD. She passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at the age of 82.  She was a member of the Slayton Presbyterian Church.   Arlys will be remembered for her love of family and friends, her strong faith, her great sense of humor, her hugs, and her generous and kind heart.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, her Minnesota Twins, bowling, and all special holidays.

Survivors include her three children and their spouses, Pamela Beck of Sioux Falls, SD, Mark and Katie Catlin of Woodbury, MN, and Scott and Camy Catlin of Sioux Falls, SD, eight grandchildren, Weston Beck, Renessa Hoffman, Ryan and Amanda Catlin, Jared Catlin, Taylor and Dan Hewitt, Megan Catlin, and Kyle and Amanda Catlin, and Kaily Fuerstenberg and Kyle Koopman, one step-grandson, Zyen Hovdestad, four great-grandchildren, and one brother, Don Engelkes and his wife, Carolyn of Tracy, MN.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, John and son-in-law, Jeffery Beck.
