Arnold “Arnie” Joseph DeGreeff
Arnie DeGreeff was born on April 18, 1936 on the family farm near Chandler, Minnesota to Peter P. and Clasina VanDam DeGreeff. He grew up on the farm and graduated from Chandler High School in 1956. On December 6, 1956 Arnie enlisted in the United States Navy. Following his honorable discharge on December 5, 1960 he returned to the family farm. On June 21, 1961 he and Janet Priebe were married at St. Ann’s Church in Slayton, MN. Following their marriage, they made their home on a farm near Chandler, MN. In 1964 they purchased a farm north of Lake Wilson, MN, where they farmed until 1994 when a disability forced Arnie to retire. They then moved to a home on Lake Shetek and remained there until 2000 when they build a new home in Slayton. In November 2018 Arnie moved to the Slayton Rehabilitation and Health Care Center until it closed in 2019. He then moved to Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, MN. Due to failing health Arnie moved to Our House Hospice Home in Slayton in September 2020 where he passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at the age of 85. He was a member of St. Ann’s Church in Slayton. He also was a member of the Lake Wilson American Legion Post and served as past Post Commander. Arnie loved spending time with his family, farming, raising Angus Cattle, hunting, and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Janet DeGreeff of Slayton, MN, four children, Lisa Cuperus and her husband, Dave of Fulda, MN, Randy DeGreeff and his wife, Becky of Cannon Falls, MN, Danny “Bubba” DeGreeff of Lake Wilson, MN, and Stacy Kathman of Lake Wilson, MN, eight grandchildren, three step grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren, two brothers, John DeGreeff of Slayton, MN, and Steve DeGreeff and his wife, Ellie of Spicer, MN, one sister, Rosemary Drager of Waseca, MN, one brother-in-law, Gene Steffes of Pipestone, MN, one sisters-in-law, Gordena “Gordie” DeGreeff of Slayton, MN, and several nieces and nephews and their families. He is preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Dan Kathman, infant sister, Katherine DeGreeff, two sisters and their spouses, Nellie and Bill Mercer, and Dorothy and Ed Gannon, three brothers, Nick DeGreeff and his wife, Dee, Jim DeGreeff, and Pete DeGreeff, one brother-in-law, Marvin Drager, two sisters-in-law, Joan DeGreeff and Kay Steffes and his father and mother -in-law, Darel and Emma Priebe
Funeral Services
St. Ann’s Church in Slayton, MN, on May 10, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Thien Nguyen officiating. The organist is Judy Andrews. The song leader is Tom Andrews. The pallbearers are his grandchildren. Interment is at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Slayton, MN. Military honors accorded by the Lake Wilson American Legion Post.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday May 10, 2021. Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, GUESTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO WEAR A MASK and practice social distancing guidelines.
