Beatrice “Tootie” Marie Terry

Tootie Terry was born on February 12, 1934 in Ladysmith, Wisconsin to Carl Sr. and Beatrice Fullerton Lokker.  She grew up in Ladysmith and graduated from Ladysmith High School in 1953.  She met her future husband, Charles “Chuck” Terry while attending the Murray County Fair in 1951.  They were married on February 20, 1954.  Tootie made a home for herself in Manhattan, KS while Chuck was stationed at Ft. Riley.  When Chuck was sent to Korea to serve in the war, Tootie returned to Slayton and then to Ladysmith to await his return home.  When Chuck returned they made their home in Slayton.  From 1957 to 1970 Tootie worked as a carhop at the Gillette’s Drive Inn and also at the Murray County Hospital as a nurse’s aid.  In 1970 Tootie started working as the secretary to the Guidance Counselor at Slayton Central High School. Tootie loved her job and the people she worked with making lifelong friendships.  Tootie later worked for Burtzel Accounting retiring in 1995.  Together Chuck and Tootie built four beautiful homes for themselves and their family.   Chuck designed and built them while Tootie decorated each with her own unique style.  Tootie was very gifted and creative at making everything around her beautiful, inviting and comfortable.  In her spare time Tootie loved to sew, crochet, knit refinish furniture, shop, play cards and travel.  Her true passion in life was being a wife, mother, and grandmother.  She just loved being with her family.  Chuck passed away on February 15, 2014.  Tootie remained in Slayton until April 2018 when she moved to Chisago City, MN to be near her family. Tootie passed away unexpectedly at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at the age of 84.  She was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton where she served on various committee’s and boards.
