Berle Lindy Boese
Berle Boese was born in August 1927 on the family farm in Cameron Township, Murray County, north of Lake Wilson, Minnesota to Emil and Minnie Boese. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Lake Wilson High School in 1945. After graduation he enter the United States Navy and serve in the Pacific Theater as a diesel mechanic. Following his honorable discharge in July 1946 he returned to the family farm. In March 1950 he and Donna Mae Reese were married at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Pipestone, MN. Following their marriage, they farmed the Boese family farm and raised their three children. In 2004 they moved to Slayton. Donna died in January 2013. Berle remained in their home until June 2019 when he became a resident of the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne, MN where he died on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at the age of 94. He was a lifetime member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson, MN. He also was a 75-year member of the Lake Wilson American Legion Post. Berle enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and shooting pool at the bar.
Survivors include his three children, Karen van der Hagen, Kerry (Deb) Boese and Kraig (Brenda) Boese, nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one sister-in-law, Dorothy Boese. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Donna of 62 years, son-in-law, David. van der Hagan, grandson, Jordan Boese and two brothers, Tony and Cliff Boese.
A private family service will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson, MN with interment at St. John’s Cemetery in rural Lake Wilson, MN. Totzke Funeral Home of Slayton, MN is entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers Berle would have been honored to have any memorials directed to donor’s charity choice.
