Bernice Mathilda Crompton

Bernice Crompton was born on December 15, 1929, on the family farm near Forest Lake, Minnesota to Gotfred and Martina Bohman.  She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Forest Lake High School in 1947.  Following high school Bernice moved to Minneapolis, MN and worked at Northwestern Fire and Marine Insurance Company.  On December 15, 1951, she and George Crompton were married in Minneapolis.  Following their marriage, they made their home in Minneapolis for one year before moving to Scotland, SD.  In 1954 the family moved to Slayton, MN.  In 1972 Bernice went to work for Penny Frock and later as a draftsman for Finley Engineering.  Bernice retired in 1987.  George passed away on October 7, 2014.  Bernice remained in her home until 2016 when she moved to Sunrise Terrace in Slayton.  In 2018 she moved to Lindenwood Assisted Living in Slayton where she passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at the age of 92.  She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN where she was active in ladies circle, taught Bible School, was on the Faith and Fellowship Committee, and was a charter member of the Chapel Bells Choir.  In her younger days Bernice served as Cub Scout Den Mother and as a Girl Scout Brownie Leader.  Bernice enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing, and reading.  Bernice entered many of her projects in the Murray County Fair and received many ribbons for her work.

Survivors include her three children and their spouses, David and June Crompton of Hooper, UT, Susan Gurrola of Woodbury, MN, and Jennifer and Edward Becker of Jacksonville, IL, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, George, two grandsons, George Crompton, and Spencer Gurrola, seven siblings and their spouses, Walter and Alice Bohman, Ruth Bohman, Hazel and Chris Nielsen, Herbert and Agnes Bohman, Ethel and George Gillert, Roy Bohman, and Beulah and Laurence Opelia and two in-laws, Robert and Maxine Crompton and Mary Crompton.

Funeral Services

Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Darby Lawrence officiating.  The organist is Nancy Lee Pierson with special music by Heidi Winter.  The pallbearers are her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Interment is at Elim Lutheran Cemetery in Scandia, MN.
