Betty Lou Kepler

Betty Kepler was born on October 15, 1939, in Verdi, Minnesota to Arnold and Etta Sowden Severeid.  She grew up on the family farm in Lincoln County, MN until 1945 when the family moved to a farm in Cameron Township, Murray County, MN.  Betty graduated from Lake Wilson High School in 1957.  On May 10, 1959, she and Lauren Kepler were married in Slayton, MN.  Following their marriage they made their home at Ft. Riley, KS, Ft. Carson, CO, Korea, and South Omaha where Lauren was stationed.  Following his discharge, they returned to Lake Wilson until 1967 when they moved to Windom. MN.  Betty worked at the Good Samaritan Society-Windom as a med aide.  She retired in 1995 after 21 years of service.  Lauren passed away on July 21, 1991.  Betty remained in her home until May 2023 when she moved to the Good Samaritan Society-Windom.  She passed away there on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at the age of 85. 

Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Jeff and Felicia Kepler of Hector, MN, Jodie and Randy Jensen of Hutchinson, MN, Jill and Ray Showalter of Hutchinson, MN and Russ and Paula Kepler of Windom, MN, 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild on the way in July, five siblings, Carol DeZeeuw of Lake Wilson, MN, Rhonda Voss of Lake Wilson, MN, Keith and Betty Severeid of Pipestone, MN, Lowell “Gus” Severeid of Albuquerque, NM, and Claudia and Mark Barry of Rapid City, SD, three in-laws, Toni Severeid of Lakewood, CO, Darlene Severeid of Spencer, IA and Sharon Severeid of Lake Wilson, MN.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lauren, son, Jerry Kepler, brothers, LeRoy, Virgil, Mark “Bud”, and Gene Severeid, sister, Bonita Grogan and husband, Dennis, and two brothers-in-law, Ken DeZeeuw, and Ron Voss and one sister-in-law, Linda Severeid. 

Funeral Services

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson, MN on Monday, May 19, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Rick Fredrickson officiating.  The organist Darlene Bose.  The pallbearers are Justin Jensen, Matt Jensen, Brandon Kepler, Kyle Jensen, Dylan Kalenberg, and Gerald Hayes.  The honorary pallbearer is Logan Kepler.  Interment is at Hillside Cemetery in Lake Wilson, MN.
