Betty Ann Tyrrell Snelling
Betty Tyrrell Snelling was born on November 21, 1928, in Chandler, Minnesota to William “Bill” and Anna den Boer Natte. In 1929 the family moved to Slayton, MN. Betty grew up in Slayton and graduated from Slayton High School in 1946. On December 22, 1946, she and Lester “Bud” Tyrrell were married at the Slayton Presbyterian Church. Following their marriage, they made their home in Slayton and raised their three sons. Betty worked at several places in Slayton over the years like Buckles Variety, J C Penney’s, Worthmore Ice Cream, and the Murray County Sheriff Office. Most people will remember Betty as the bubbly and friendly waitress at the Hub Drive-In for over 20 years. Bud passed away on August 4, 1978. Betty and Robert “Bob” Snelling were married on November 20, 1994, in Lake Tahoe, NV. Following their marriage, they made their home in Slayton. In 2023 Betty moved to Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda. Bob passed away on January 5, 2024. Betty passed away at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at the age of 96. Betty was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Slayton where she served as treasurer, Elder, and was a member of the Women’s Group. She also was a member of the Slayton American VFW Auxiliary. Betty enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading, crocheting, walking, bowling, and traveling.
Survivors include her son, Charles “Chuck” and Kathy Tyrrell of Lebanon, MO, two step-children, Kimberly Martin of Farmington, MI, and Kurt Snelling of Northville, MI, three grandchildren Ryan Tyrrell, Tammara and Mike Vitelli and Miranda and Sean Belcher, 3 step-grandchildren, Mitch Dietchman, Susan Dietchman, and Kris and Dennis Dietchman, 14 great-grandchildren, 4 step great-grandchildren, one step great-great-grandson, one sister Lyda “Tupee” Turner of Fulda, MN, one sister-in-law, Connie and Richard Mattice of Grand Rapids, MI and several nieces, nephews and their families. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Bud, husband Bob, sons, Ronald “Ron” and Helen Tyrrell, and Roger and LaDonna Tyrrell, siblings, Dorothy and Harry Laible, George and Dorothy Natt, and two brothers-in-law, Larry Turner and Duane and Connie Snelling.
Memorial services
First Presbyterian Church in Slayton, MN on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Aaron Punt officiating. The organist is Joan Friese. Interment is at Slayton City Cemetery in Slayton, MN.
