Bruce Hovde Obituary

In Loving Memory Of

Bruce John Hovde

Bruce Hovde was born on February 9, 1946, in Minneapolis, MN and he joined a loving family with Jasper and Irene (Norstegard) Hovde. He grew up in the Dovray area and enjoyed playing football, competing in 4-H with the Dovray Headlights and spending time with classmates, friends and family. He attended a one room schoolhouse, District School #1260 and graduated from Westbrook High School in 1964. He then attended Community College in Worthington for 2 years and lived on the family farm site. In May of 1967 Bruce entered the U.S. Navy and served with the Seabees and was stationed in Vietnam during the war, until his honorable discharge in October 1970. Bruce was united in marriage to Carol (Frericks) Miketey on October 24, 1980 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Dovray. After their marriage they made their home in Dovray. Bruce stepped up and adopted Carol’s daughter, Bridget and they were later blessed to have a son, Ross, together in 1982. Over the years he worked as a dairy farmer for 35 years, mechanic for Schwan’s in Marshall and John Deere in Slayton and was still helping Schmitz Grain in the spring and fall. Bruce passed away on Friday, June 11, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Society in Windom, MN at the age of 75. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Dovray. Bruce also belonged to the Rolling Hills Golf Club and had served as a board member. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with family, building furniture, gazebos, cupboards, decks and “always making sawdust”. He also enjoyed spending time with his with family, playing cards and games, telling jokes (he was the MASTER joke teller) and teaching his granddaughter (at a very early age) about the cows, the farm, that they were a “John Deere” family and how to drive a car. Another favorite pastime was attending gun shows/auctions with Ross. He loved having morning coffee with his buddies and shaking dice with Kim E.
