Carol Nepp Obituary

In Loving Memory of

Carol May Nepp

Carol Nepp was born on December 24, 1923 in Luverne, Minnesota to Matthew and S. Grace Moore McLean.  She grew up in Magnolia, MN and graduated from Magnolia High School.  Following high school Carol attended the Mankato Teaching Program and taught in the Comfrey, MN and Pipestone, MN area.  On August 28, 1953 she and Derald Nepp were married at the Magnolia Methodist Church.  Following their marriage they made their home on a farm near Lake Wilson, MN. They later moved to into Lake Wilson.  Carol returned to Mankato State and received her Bachelors of Science Degree and then taught at the Russell Elementary School for many years.  In 1979 they moved to Tea, SD and Carol worked as a supervisor at the Sioux Valley Hospital’s Child Care Program until her retirement.  Carol loved genealogy and has published two books, one on the Moore family and one on the McLean family.  Carol said of her genealogical studies “I want my children and grandchildren to respect and appreciate the efforts of those who have gone before and paved the way to give us the freedoms and privileges of our lives today”.  Carol loved sharing her knowledge of genealogy.   In 2015 Carol moved to Lindenwood Assisted Living in Slayton, MN to be near family.  In January 2020 she became a resident of the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda, MN.  Carol passed away at the Murray County Medical Center in Slayton on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at the age of 96.  She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Tea.  She also was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), the Lake Wilson American Legion Auxiliary, Tea Coffee Club, Sioux Valley Genealogical Society and the (AAUW) American Association of University Women.  Carol enjoyed being with her family, reading, her flower gardens, old movies and TV shows and was a very strong Republican.

Survivors include her three children, Kathy Behrends of Slayton, MN, John Nepp of Lake Wilson, MN, and Paul Nepp and his wife, Barb of Slayton, MN, eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Arndt and Roger, brothers, Thomas McLean and Donald McLean and his wife, Catherine.
