Clarine Schaeffer Obituary

Clarine E. Schaeffer

Clarine E. Schaeffer passed away at the age of 93 on March 22, 2023, at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda, Minnesota. The family will hold a private Celebration of Life and she will be inurned at Memory Gardens in Slayton, Minnesota, at a later date.

Clarine was born to George W. and Elfreda (nee Anderson) Anderson on May 14, 1929, while the family resided on a farm in Des Moines River Township, Murray County, Minnesota. She attended the rural District 67 School through eighth grade and graduated from high school in Westbrook, Minnesota, in 1947. She then completed two winter quarters at the School of Agriculture at the University of Minnesota in St. Paul.

She married Stanley C. “Chub” Schaeffer on January 6, 1950. They lived in Avoca, Minnesota, and raised two daughters – Lynne and Paula – and one son, Scott. Clarine worked numerous part-time jobs while the kids were growing up. Later she worked at the sewing manufacturer in Slayton full time. After Chub retired as a U.S. Postal Service rural letter carrier, the couple moved to California in 1982. Together they worked part time managing rental properties for a number of years. They returned to live in Minnesota in 2001. Stanley passed away in 2018. Clarine became a resident of the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in 2019.

Clarine loved it whenever she could get in the car and travel, whether it was just for a day trip to see her cousins in Iowa or it was across the country to visit other family members. She also enjoyed sewing and gardening. Her Lutheran faith was important to her and she was active in church activities, regardless of where she lived, with the longest stretch of years being at the Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Avoca. She had been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 576 in Avoca since 1949 and was very involved in their activities during the years she lived in Minnesota.

She is survived by one daughter, Paula (Michael Koob) Schaeffer of Hanska, Minnesota; two granddaughters: Holly (Jamie) Thomas of Ripon, California, and Heather (Cody) Nostrand of Grand Junction, Colorado; three great-grandchildren: Jacob Thomas, Paige Thomas and Reed Nostrand; one brother, George W. Anderson Jr. of Casa Grande, Arizona; son-in-law, Tony Quattrociocchi, his son Michael and daughter Angela and her family; one niece and five nephews and their families; a step-niece and nephew and their families; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter, Lynne Schaeffer-Quattrociocchi; son, Scott; brothers: Russell, Maxwell, Alan, Leland, Kenneth, John and one infant brother; sisters-in-law: Genevieve and Ella Mae; two nieces; and two nephews.
