In Loving Memory of

Daniel “Gordy” Gordon Hanson

Gordy Hanson was born on August 12, 1927, in Hay Creek, Lake of the Woods, Minnesota to Peder and Olga Olson Hanson.  He grew up on the family farm and attended Baudette High School.  He went on to attended Ag School in Crookston, MN graduating in 1944.  He then returned to the family farm and worked with neighboring farmers until he enlisted in the United States Navy serving as a Motor Machinist Mate 3rd Class. Following his honorable discharge, he made his home in Baudette, MN working for the REA Cooperative.  In 1947 he moved to Slayton and worked for the Nobles and Murray Counties Cooperative.  On June 12, 1952, he and Julia “Judy” Hendrickson were married at St. Mary’s Church in Worthington, MN.  Following their marriage, they made their home in Slayton and raised their four children.  Gordy retired in 1990 after 41 ½ years with REA.  Judy passed away on October 26, 2002.  Gordy remained in his home until 2017 when he moved to Lindenwood Assisted Living in Slayton.  Gordy passed away at his home on Friday, November 18, 2022, at the age of 95.  He was a member of the Slayton Jaycees the Slayton American Legion Post and the Slayton VFW Post.  Gordy volunteered as a courier between the Slayton Hospital, Tracy Hospital, and the Westbrook Hospital for many years.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, hunting, fishing, gardening, puzzles, and watching sports especially the Minnesota Twins and Murray County Central sports.

Survived by his three children and their spouses, Jean Rice of Slayton, MN, Kari and Bill Thompson of Chaska, MN, and Todd and Sherri Hanson of Elko, MN, ten grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Grace Hanson of Baudette, MN and several nieces, nephews and their families.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Judy, son, Jeffrey Hanson, daughter-in-law, Denise Hanson, son-in-law, John Rice, three brothers, Carl, Henry, Noreen and three sisters, Mabel, Elvera, and Gladys.

Memorial Services

Slayton Presbyterian Church in Slayton on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Dave Hollis officiating.  Interment is at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Slayton, MN.  Military honors accorded by the Slayton American Legion Post.
