Dale Paul Nelson
Dale Nelson was born on July 17, 1957, in Slayton, Minnesota to Jim and Ruth Sagmoen Nelson. He grew up on the family farm south of Garvin, MN and graduated from Slayton High School in 1976. Dale then attended Canby Vo-Tech for Welding. On June 16, 1979, he and Linda Finke were married at Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton. Following their marriage, they made their home in Slayton and raised their two children. Dale worked construction and then in the early 1990’s when he went to work for the Murray County Sheriff’s Office as a dispatcher. He later received his Peace Officer License changing from dispatch to deputy with the Murray County Sheriff’s Office. He also worked for the Slayton Police Department, and the Fulda Police Department. Dale retired in 2018. Although retired Dale kept busy working at Midwest Supply in Slayton, doing a variety of construction projects, and just tinkering in his garage. Dale and Linda celebrated their 45th Wedding Anniversary this past June. Dale passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Ava’s House with his family by his side at the age of 67. He was a lifetime member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN. Dale served on the Slayton Fire Department for over 20 years. Dale enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, and racing.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Nelson of Slayton, MN two children and their spouses, Dareth and Jason Ross of Slayton, MN and Dylan and Cody Nelson of Beaver Creek, MN, four grandchildren Alyse Nelson, Theda Ross, William Ross, and baby Nelson due in October, two brothers and their spouses, Jeff and Joy Nelson of Stoughton, WI, and Tom and Najka Nelson of Avoca, MN, one sister in-law, Jean Nelson of Ivanhoe, MN and several Finke in-laws and their families. He is preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Mark Nelson.
Funeral Services
Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on August 27, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Chad Duffy Officiating. The pallbearers are Josh Bonnstetter, Matthew Hurd, Andy Kleven, Dennis Lickness, John Kindseth and John Wiggins. Interment is at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery rural Slayton, MN.
Visitation will be on Monday, August 26, 2024, at Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton from 4-7 p.m. also one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday. Totzke Funeral Home of Slayton is entrusted with arrangements. To view online obituary and send condolences visit totzkefuneralhome.com
