In Loving Memory o
Darlene Constance Knakmuhs
Darlene Knakmuhs was born October 2, 1927, in Irene, South Dakota to Rasmus and Florence Paulson Juul. She grew up in Irene and attended country school. In 1953 she and her parents moved to Slayton, MN. Darlene started working at Ben Franklin, which later became Fremstad’s Variety. On January 2, 1977, she and John Knakmuhs were married in Slayton. They made their home in Slayton and Darlene continued to work at the variety store. John passed away on February 26, 1990. After the variety store closed Darlene retired. But that was short-lived, as a new variety store opened, Henry’s Hometown Variety, so Darlene returned to work. Darlene was a very devoted daughter caring for her mother Florence until her death in 2007. Darlene remained in Slayton until March 2020 when she moved to the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda, MN. She passed away there on Monday, July 4, 2022, at age of 94. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Slayton. Darlene enjoyed bird watching and all things to do with birds, coffee with friends, and visiting Subway.
She is survived by her friends. She is preceded in death her parents and husband John.
