Darlette Lylis Rolfes

Darlette Rolfes was born on April 2, 1928 in Lake Benton, Minnesota to Alvin and Alma Wiese Scheiber. She grew up in Slayton and attended Slayton School.  On June 23, 1947 she and Eugene Rolfes were married at St. Columba Church in Iona, MN.  Following their marriage they made their home in Slayton where they owned and operated the Log Cabin Station.  They later owned and operated Suzuki City Motorcycle Sales and Services.  Eugene passed away on June 20, 1988.  Darlette worked at the Slayton Manor until her retirement.  Due to failing health Darlette moved to Our House Hospice Home in Slayton on August 20, 2020. She passed away there on September 2, 2020 at the age of 92.  She was a member of St. Ann’s Church in Slayton where she was active with the church bazaar. She also was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.  Darlette loved raising horses, snowmobiling, working outdoors in her yard, and playing cards.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and their families.

Survivors include her four children and their spouses: Richard and Joan Rolfes of Avoca, MN, Michael and Paula Rolfes of Westbrook, MN, Wendy and Kevin DeSchepper of Sioux Falls, SD, and Wanda and Jim Smith of Slayton, MN, eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; six siblings and their spouses, Jeanette Rolfes of Iona, MN, Merlyn and JoAnn Scheiber of Sioux Falls, SD, Arlyn and Barb Scheiber of Dodge Center, MN, Garnette Ulrich of Belle Fourche, SD, Annette and Jim Honerman of Adrian, MN, and Lynette King of Phoenix, AZ.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Eugene, great-granddaughter, Agnes Marie Smith, three sisters, Harriette Scheiber, Paulette Scheiber, and Charlette Schaa and one brother, Duane Scheiber.

Funeral Services

St. Ann’s Church in Slayton, MN on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Thien Nyguyen officiating.  The pianist is Patty LeClaire.  The pallbearers are Richard Rolfes, Jim Smith, Kevin DeSchepper, Travis Smith, Kayla Johnson and Chris Johnson.  Interment is at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Slayton, MN.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.
