Darrel Schipper Obituary

In Loving Memory Of

Darrel Schipper

Darrel Rae Schipper, the son of William “Bill” and Lillian (Rachuy) Schipper, was born on November 28, 1942 in Iona Township, Murray Co., Minnesota with his twin sister, Darlene. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel American Lutheran Church in rural Fulda. Darrel attended country school through the 8th grade and attended high school in Fulda. He first found a love for trucking, working for his father moving livestock at the age of 17. Sometime later after, he began his own grain trucking business, where he made lifelong friends. Darrel kept the business until January of 2022, at which time he had to stop due to medical issues. Throughout this time, he also farmed and took care of a variety of animals, including dairy cattle and pigs. Additionally for some time he worked on racecars with his friend, Bob Swenson. Darrel and his high school sweetheart, Mavis Paplow were married in February 1962. They were blessed with 4 children and a infant daughter who sadly passed away at birth. Together they enjoyed many happy moments. Some of their favorite memories included vacations to the Black Hills, visiting Paul Bunyan in Brainard and the Cotton Bowl Parade in Texas with the Fulda Raider Band. During the last years of his life, he suffered from a number of medical conditions. After a lengthy and hard fought battle, he was relieved from his pain and passed away on Friday, May 10, 2024 at the Our House Hospice Home in Slayton, MN at the age of 81 surrounded by his loved ones. Darrel taught many people and helped even more over his many years and is well respected, even in memory. He will be missed dearly by all.

Survivors include his wife, Mavis Schipper of Fulda, MN; 4 children, Kevin Schipper and his significant other LeAnn Miller of Iona, MN, Brenda (Jim) Hoffman of Shafer, MN, Cindy (Curt) Gehl of Windom, MN and Lisa (Jerome) Thedans of Windom, MN; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Wanda (Bob) Moline of Marshall, MN; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Angela Rose Schipper, infant great-grandson, Rhett Boltjes and twin sister, Darlene (Elton) Krueger.
