David Peter Dorn

David Dorn was born on November 1, 1939, in Adrian, Minnesota to Edwin and Margaret Nytes Dorn. He grew up on the family farm east of Adrian and graduated from St. Adrian High School in 1958.  Following high school David farmed with his father, Ed.  David was a member of the South Dakota Air National Guard for two years.  On August 12, 1972, he and Betty Adrian were married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton, SD.  Following their marriage, they farmed east of Adrian and raised their three children.  While faming David also worked at Country Cupboards in Luverne, MN until 2007.  Betty passed away on October 2, 2000.  David passed away at his home on Sunday, June 13, 2021, at the age of 81.  He was a lifelong member of St. Adrian Catholic Church in Adrian having served as usher and on various capital campaigns and committees for St. Adrian and for the Winona-Rochester Diocese.  David served on the Wilmont-Adrian Coop Elevator Board from 1991 to 2003.  David enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking, stained glass, antiques, farm and estate sales and his cats and dog.

Survivors include his three children, Janel Dorn of Sioux Falls, SD, Matt Dorn of Baltimore, MD and Fr. Mike Dorn of Crow Agency, MT; five siblings and their spouses, Joe and Clarice “Punky” Dorn, Marlene and Dave Hieronimus, Robert Dorn, James and Cheryl Dorn all of Adrian, MN, and Michael and Sue Dorn of Brookings, SD; one brother-in-law Robert “Bob” Heitkamp of Brookings, SD and several other family members.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Betty, one brother, Fr. Jerry Dorn, one sister, Marianne Heitkamp, father-in-law, Joe Adrian, mother-in-law and her husband, Hazel and George B. German and one niece, Julie Heitkamp.

Funeral Services

St. Adrian Catholic Church in Adrian, Mn on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Mike Dorn and Fr. Rick Colletti Concelebrating.  The organist is Cindy Heitkamp.  The song leaders are Cindy Wolf and Kathy Burzlaff.  The pallbearers are Mark Dorn, Robb Loomis, Mark Thier, Eric Dorn, Andy Dorn and Will Johnson.  Interment is St. Adrian Catholic Cemetery in Adrian, MN.  Military honors accorded by the Adrian American Legion post.

Visitation will be on Friday, June 18, 2021, at St. Adrian Church from 4-7p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to a charity of choice.
